Does anyone actually use an Assault Shaker for daily carry...possible LEO use? I've been looking for one and can't seem to find any anywhere. The search function on the sale threads doesn't seem to be working for me and I'm new to Busse and the acronyms have me looking everywhere!! any help or if anyone has one, preferably with a sheath, they were considering parting with...Let me know. thanks aguero@frontiernet.net

Those on the WTB are looking to trade (for other Busse's and I am trying to work on my first) rather than sell.

I really would like to know if anyone uses the Assault Shaker for daily tasks...I know from reading on this forum that alot are for personal collections. Thought this would make an easy and small carry on duty belt but I also wondered if anyone ever used one for field use?? Removing a cape from deer and elk is easier with the use of a thick blade or heavy screwdriver around the base of large antlers and due to the carry size and thickness of the Assault Shaker, I thought this might work out great without damage to primary hunting knife. any opinions?

Thats because you posted in the wanted to trade section.

A while back one of the gentlemen here posted pics of the assault shaker he'd bought for his son, who I believe was either a cadet somewhere, a GI, or a cop--can't remember which. I think I've also read that some folks have used them as neckers.

IMO, the shaker would be a great little knife to have on the belt for duty OR hunting use. They are a bit difficult to find, tho, so maybe you might also look at the Game Wardens and BAD's. You could get a game warden or BAD and have the slabs removed of you wanted to. Or, you could post a WTB for a swamp warden or Skelly Warden. You could even PM Jaxx and see if he still has any Skellies.

I have one that I bought on the secondary market to use as a necker. It will go into the rotation eventually, but I have not used it enough to speak about the knife with any authority. It is a fairly thick blade at the spine for such a small knife though.

You should email Dwayne Puckett (leatherman here on Bladeforums). He has an AS that he belt carries often. When I saw him at Blade this past year, he had it on him. It's seen a lot of use and has been stripped and bead blasted if I remember correctly.

At one point, Jerry teased us with an Anorexic (thinner) version that was supposed to come out alongside the Scotch Dispenser, but we never saw that one. Hopefully, it's hiding in the wings somewhere.

Edit: Dwayne can be reached through his website at http://www.armoralleather.com/

Thanks dobywon...I guess I should have posted in the WTB section only.
My primary interest in the Shaker is due to its size and thickness...I have a favorite hunting knife and have found myself needing something extremely stout but easy to carry (ex. removing an arrow from a pine tree that stepped in the way!) but thought it would also be discreet to carry for duty use.

Here's one of my Assault Shakers that's been ground down thinner (closer to a Pepper Shaker's thickness) then recoated...

The small size makes it a great necker for me and I do put it in the edc rotation on occasion. Extensive work using the AS is hard on the hands IMO (I have fairly big hands), the GW or AD might suit you better and they'll be much easier to find.

Good luck in your search!

I carry and use mine all the time. I modified mine slightly, removing the talon hole. It's not much of a slicer, but it gets the job done when needed. I use mine all the time for everything from prying open paint cans to digging in gravel. I recently used it as a large screwdriver by sticking the back end into a large slot and turning it with a pair of pliers.

Good luck in your search!

Here's a couple pics...

An alternative (and a better one in my opinion) would be the Police Recruit. It is a better fit for my hands. There's one on the Exchange right now.

I keep a few neckers and I use them. I forgot to get the Bear Cub in here because I have it on!

Thanks for all the helpfull info and great pics! (Makes me want one all the more) The search continues!

Had one awhile back, but it was too small for my mitts. Sold it. Got a Skeleton Key instead, it fits very well under my body armor and it's 3/16" thick. Plenty thick for a back up knife. I use a Active Duty on my support side, in front of my mag holder, when not in a field environment. The belt knife might change, but the Skeleton Key is with me always. I even bought a second complete rig in case this one gets lost or has to be left somewhere. Both are in Okuden kydex sheaths, the best I've used, and the SK has a back-up cuff key.

If you have large hands go for the Skeleton Key. I found the AS to be too small especially with my hand size, an SGW or PR would also be a better choice. IMO
