Mister Google told me, if I understand correctly, that the spear on the Spear and Grass Umfaan is most likely an “assegai" or Zulu throwing spear.
The spear on the Spear and Sun Umfaan is most likely an “iklwa” or Zulu thrusting spear.
If there are any Zulus reading this please chime in if I have it wrong.

Great photos, guys! I especially like them because a few months ago I was lucky enough to buy them as a pair from a guy in New Zealand. Once in hand, they were too small for my tastes, but I was very happy to have the opportunity to admire them in person. Both are works of art both in craftsmanship and design. I'm glad they have ended up in happy homes!

It may interest you to know that Chris used to actually sell Assegai's.

He had an old Zulu gentleman who made them for him in the traditional way. Chris used to give him rebar to make them with.

Chris often had them at show's here in SA and I purchased a load of them from him and sold them in the UK. (this was in the mid 80's)
