The suggestion of a 305 assembled in Mexico came up in the recent 305 thread. Starting a new thread to not detract. A search found this old thread from 2009. Post #6 by CJ Buck explained Buck's rationale for trying assembly in Mexico.

That's what I remember reading.
The tried it but decided that it just didn't suit their values or belief in paying Americans a living wage to manufacture quality products here in America.

I have contemplated getting one because it's historical, but I view the first knives made in Idaho as more of a testimony to their commitment than this idea that they explored.

Did the thread say the whole family 301/303/305/309 went through Mexican experiment? When I acquired the 303, i was going to make a point to find the other ones but I forgot about it. I do also have the 305, but no picture of it. So it looks like we know for sure Mexican assembled 303 & 305 & 309 exist.

Edit: OK, I read the entire thread and someone did say that they had a 301 assembled in Mexico. So it looks like I have to find me a 301 and a 309. Hopefully, someone saved the boxes for 25 years. I feel those green and tan boxes are the least durable of all the boxes.
