It seems that this was brought up one other time, but I can't recall if the consensus was Raindrop or Bubble Wrap on the bottom left blade.

Anyone care to revisit this topic with me?

Going to have to try and find me a raindrop knife then, I'm missing one of those in my collection...along with many others..but I have to start little by little.

Lisa I'd say bubble wrap. Here are a couple of close up pics of Thomas SS raindrop damascus on two different Sebenzas I've had.

Appreciate the photos...yes, mine does not look like those raindrops.

I still think this is Raindrop damascus, only with a more random pattern than is typical. Bubblewrap has larger average size rings, with a consistent pattern that looks something like a row of fingerprints.

These are some pictures I found of random raindrops.

I'd send a picture to CRK (specifically Anne) and get her opinion.

I concur. As far as I am aware, the only CRKs that have been made with Bubblewrap Damascus is the Mnandi, and if memory serves, that Damascus pattern is exclusive to TNK. Here's is one of my Mnandis that has this type of blade:

I believe it's a rain-drop damascus pattern as well. Here's a pic of Devin Thomas' bubble-wrap damascus on RJ's Overkill.

lunde ~ great pick-up on the mnandi!

Okay, then I may have a raindrop and now need to look specifically for a bubble wrap Sebenza. I recall this one being difficult to identify before which is why I forgot what the conclusion was.

Okay, I think I've sorted it out, I'm going to get a bubble wrap AND a raindrop...just to err on the safe side :D

At a glance I would have believed Bubble Wrap, but I guess there is much evidence of being a variant of Rain Drop.

Here's my Rain Drop Seb that makes yours look like Bubble Wrap. haha

Hi

It is Devin Thomas Raindrop Damascus- perhaps Stainless? If it has a clear film of KG Gun Kote then that is how they have been treating Damascus blades (including Stainless) for the last few years.

Regards, Neil

Thanks Neil. You don't get much more authoritative than that folks.

As far as stainless vs high-contrast - I think it is HC due to the darker areas between the rings. Stainless always seems to have a lighter, grey tone than the older HC stuff. In Lisa's picture above, I am pretty sure the spirograph damascus is stainless. I would also venture a guess that the Seb with ladder damascus in the upper right is HC, where as the P shown in the lower right should be stainless (from AJ Hubbard)
