I have been looking for "THE KNIFE" for myself to last me rest of my life and hopefully pass it down some day to my children. I would like knife to be functional and yet have a little style. Id like something tried and true like steel knife (BG-42,D2, with 60+ Rc) with standered 4” drop point blade. I prefer stag but will settle for nice maple burl handel. I would like to keep my purchase under 250$

OK this is what I got, If anybody knows knife makers with simuliar designs within my price range please speak up and let me know. What do you guys think?
Any help Idea and sugestions would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks
OEH

You should be able to find something in the Bob Dozier lineup that would suit your needs and price range. His treatment of D2 is fabulous.

I'll second the Dozier recommendation. Comfortable fit, great D2 heat treatment, excellent Kydex sheath, and reasonable price. You can even ask for various handle materials and slight alterations to the designs. Bob does great work with stag, the price of which would be right around the price cap you mentioned. Bob also has his own discussion board for answering online questions, which he checks very regularly. If you want something to hand down for generations, you might as well go custom.

Anything by Ed Fowler. You can find him in the ShopTalk Forum and his knives are timeless as well as classic. They're hard to get second-hand because people keep 'em forever.

They're the classic hunting knife and many knifemakers credit Fowler's knives with getting them into the business.

Just my 0.02

For quality and price I would try calling custom maker, Mike Irie, in Colorado Springs. The last number I had was 719-572-5330. He has done a lot of real nice work with stag and BG-42. He might be able to do something in your price range.

How about a Badger Attack III by Busse Combat...Cause INFI rocks...!:D

I checked out Dozier web site.I like his knives but a little to plain for me.I called about stag and on two hunting knives I mentioned the price is $300+ outa my price range.
Buzz are those his knives with stag in pictures?

Yep. That's my Dozier K-4 Straight Hunter in stag. It's a beautiful knife, and cuts like crazy. You should also ask about Bob's use of wood as a handle material. I've seen pictures of Bob's wood work, and it's simply gorgeous.

You can also give A.G. Russell a call. A.G. has a new line of semi-production Dozier skinners, flat ground with golden ironwood handle slabs. The price is $225.00 for the ironwood version, and $175 for the micarta handle. I believe they are ready to ship.

Buzzbait, that Dozier is one heck of a beautiful blade! That stag is gorgeous. Man am I jealous!

Bob's Maple burl is very nice!!:)

You need to take a look at a Terry Primos hunter. Should meet all your requirements except for stainless steel. I have one of his drop point hunters (forged 1084) and it cut's like crazy. Easy to keep sharp, and great workmanship.

I don't want stainless for a hunter, but that's just me ;)

I'll second Terry's work. I have one in Amboyna? Burl that will knock your socks off. I have'nt handled a knife that feels any better in your hand than one of Terry's. Sheaths are awesome too.

Ohioelkhunter,

I had been searching for the PERFECT hunting fixed blade for almost a year...I have tryed MANY fine fixed bades in my search and my results were:

#1 Doug Mondt GMC Hunter CPM10V $225 www.mondtknives.20m.com
#2 Bob dozier Slim Outdoorsman D2 $145 AG Russell

CPM10V is in a class by itself in regards to edgeholding ability,BUT D2 is great stuff and Bob Dozier is a master with it.

I feel it's worth the extra money to go with CPM10V....and Doug is great to work with.

Do yourself a favor and read some of Cliff Stamps tests before you make your final decission.

You can't go wrong with the above makers and will not regret your purchase of a Mondt OR a Dozier !!

Best Regards,
GH
