Forgot to mention, seller specifies total length of 12.5" with a blade length of 7.25". Dates to around 1990-1993.

Thank you both, sogflash and Shane13. Beautiful looking knife, I must say! Sorely tempted if I can get him to drop the price.

Cheers,

Brian

That is a Tech II, the Tech I had a ~5". New Pig Hunter has both and I used to have a Tech I, wish I could have snagged a Tech II. There's something even cooler about the Tech II.... Snag it!! Snag it!!

Many thanks to the three of you! I went and picked it up today. An EDM.WA. generation SOG Tech II! It is in excellent condition with just a couple of tiny oxidation marks on the blade. The edge is even still sharp enough to cut paper. The leather sheath is in pristine condition. I am totally in love :-)

If there's any interest, I will post some pics on Saturday.

I would be grateful for advice from more experienced blade afficianados on how to care for the blade.

Thanks again!

Brian

My pleasure, sogflash. I'll get the pictures up tomorrow. Heading into a busy day today. As for the purchase price, I got it for $175 Canadian. I'm thinking that's a pretty good price. What do you think?

Let's see if I get this right. I'll start with one picture and follow up with the rest if it actually shows up

Sorry folks, until I upgrade my membership, I will just have to link to my Flikr account. And away we goooooooo:

You can see the oxidation in the logo shot and the picture of the blade. I've tried warm water and dish soap with no particular effect. Would you suggest moving on to metal polish and perhaps some 0000 steel wool?

Also, sogflash mentioned that the knife would normally go for more than the C$175 I paid for it. Would it be gauche to ask for a ballpark on what it would go for? Given that Canadian and US currencies have stayed pretty close to par lately, it would probably give me an idea of the value of the knife...for insurance purposes, I'll sell a kidney before I part with this baby ;)

Thanks again for your help, guidance and encouragement.

Thanks for the pictures. No clue on current market values but since the knife has some discolorations, I think you should use it!! Seriously, get that bad boy some new pants (so you can keep the factory leather perfect), take it out and use it!! SOG's were ment to be used. ;)

That's the plan! Going camping in late March with the Tech II on my belt. Even with the mild Winter we've had so far, camping in Quebec in February kinda sucks :barf:. Will report back after :D

CONGRATS !!!

Tech II .... a superlative SOG fixed blade !! One of my most-favorites, the blade shape/profile is superlative, Mr SOG got "the looks" perfect. The squishy handle material is fantastic. Edge holding is fantastic, the steel composition & temper are superb. I really like the 1/4" thick blade, good weight for chopping and such.

In my mind only the SOG Recon Bowie looks better than the Tech II.

Finish fixes ?? some Brasso or other liquid metal polish should work.

Cost ?? sheesh, just try to find one of those things .... that makes 'em almost priceless !! You made a very enviable score !!!

Cheers,

Carl
