i was wondering if storing an assisted knife in the closed position for a long time if it will ruin the spring over time thus making it non assited due to the spring bending ????

No. If this was the case them every maker of any type of spring assisted knife would package them with the blade open. I have bought knives that sat on the shelf in the box in excess of 4 years and they worked just fine. The spring only wears when it is flexed during use, not when it is at rest in an open or closed position.

Material wear is generally caused by stressing and de-stressing (opening and closing, compressing and un-compressing). A loaded spring will fail faster then an unloaded spring but the difference is pretty negligible assuming it's good material/correctly treated to begin with. This topic has been beat to death on every gun board (loaded magazine springs) since the invention of the internet so you can find tons of info out there if you so choose.

No offense but kind of an odd question coming from someone with "6 years in the knife industry" or whatever you're touting yourself in that other thread. You're offering to answer questions from an informed perspective in that thread yet asking "noob" questions in this one? What area of knives is your experience in if, after 6 years, you're unsure how to store knives?

ive never adressed or even had to the question of the spring but just recently i started wondering about it, so know when i first got hired the manager dosint go threw every single thing about knives you need to know you need to do that yourself. but like i said no one has ever asked me at the store and vice versa so i thought i might as well ask it.
thanks.
