New here so hope I got this right. Just bought a Sogzilla--it's OK, and a Kershaw Clash. I know they're lower end knives, but just getting into this. The Speedsafe (assisted open?) on the Kershaw I think is awesome. So my question--I've been wanting the Spyderco Bradley folder for the steel and the PM2 camo as it seems to be a quality EDC. What knives would be considered equals and in the same price range that have the assisted open?

I would check out the ZT 0350, BM Barrage, BM Volli, or Kershaw Blur in s30v(or better). I don't think there are any AOs with M4 right now tho, but these are all excellent AO blades in the price range your looking at.

The ZT 0770cf in Elmax is a nice folder, about priced like the Gayle Bradley.
The PM2, however, is a wonderful knife and is pretty economical to purchase.

I am a slow typer, so yeah, what he said.

Check out the Benchmade Barrage. Assisted, and the awesome Axis-lock. Can be had with M390 (581) or 154CM (580)

There are a couple of recently released models of Blurs... A couple have brown handles and Elmax blades, and the most recent has blue handles w/ silver twill inserts and a S30V blade. There is also the standard S30V Blur, which has been around for a while. The ZT 0770CF is very compact, yet it sports a 3.5" Elmax blade. The 0566 is a great and very solid knife and also has an Elmax blade. The standard S30V Blur runs about $80. The more recently released limited edition Blurs are in the $100-120 range. The ZT's are in the $120-140 range. The PM2's are around $110-120, and the Gayle Bradley is around $160.

Some pics for comparison...

+1 on the 0566. However once you move up the food chain you might find that you prefer manual opening better. Most people do and in fact some take the spring bar out of the 0566 because it has a decent detent. If you get one try it without the assist I think you will like it.

I would do either the 0350 or the 0566 if you want the speed safe....both will do tip down, but not sure why anyone would want tip down

With the smoothness and fast action of the GB, I don't think you will ever need an assisted one. I personally got rid of all my assisted ones. YMMV but the GB is in my top 5 knives list.

the 0566 is a good choice, great assist feel and quite solid while not being overly huge and bulky. Plus the Elmax is great steel

Why do you want a tip down option?

Tip down...I've read of several tip up spreading open and them getting cut when they reach in their pocket. I haven't tried tip up, but the motion out of the pocket to open seems continuous. Why do you prefer tip up?

When using tip down you have to rotate the knife to the correct position to open it...never had a knife open on its own in my pocket, and I carry autos in tip up as well

As long as it is clipped correctly, tip up will not open on you.
