Assisted opener life-span?

Hey, I just picked a Camillus Blaze yesterday and LOVE this knife. It came sharp, but I got it hair-popping and it is great . It's so much fun, I've never really handled an assisted-opening knife before and I'm sort of concerned about how durable they are. Does the lock wear down over time to the point where the liner moves over to the opposite side if I open it a lot just for fun? Thanks a lot, Jeff

I think the liners will wear just as much as any other liner lock. Spring assist loses it's charm rather quickly though. Manuals are way more fun. ;)

Nice! I've always wondered about this knife. I have a few questions.
1. How thick is the blade?
2. How thick is the hande?
Thanks!

Kryosphinx,

The blade is quite thin, and ground fairly high (this in comparison to the Gerber AR 3.00 I've been carrying) so it slices AMAZINGLY. The liner lock mechanism is extremely comfortable to use, and the handle is of medium thickness I would say. In relation to its height, it's more square than other folders I've handled (if that makes any sense). It feels VERY comfortablty, and there are no sharp spots at all I can feel.

Oh, and it's pretty light too due to the nylon handle, but strong-feeling at the same time.

I can't help but smile every time I open this thing; I've always wanted an automatic, but this will do just fine. I think this knife is the perfect size for EDCing for all the tasks I will use it for during the day, but if it were for self defense, I would opt for the larger Heat model, or something with a thicker blade, though I have no doubt the Blaze would work.

Thanks for reading, Jeff

Sorry, I lost this thread.
I mean thickness as a measurement, sorry for not making it clear. If you could do me a favor and measure the blade and the handle thickness (millimeters would be nice. If that's not possible, then the smallest unit on a ruler would be fine.) Thank you so much.

To post pics, save the pics to your computer and then go to http://www.imageshack.us/ to upload them. I'm pretty sure it's free.

Thanks for the link. Here are some pictures I just took comparing the Blaze to a Buck 110, a Gerber EZ-out, and my new SwampRat BattleRat. Hopefully this helps, but I will get exact measurements tomorrow early.

Compared to thickness of the 110:

Compared to thickness of the Battle Rat (BR is .25")

And just to show off my little friend  ...

Thanks for looking, and I WILL get those measurements tomorrow

Jeff

Kryosphinx,

From what I can tell using a school ruler, the thickest point of the spine of the Blaze is 2.5mm. The Buck 110 is 3-3.25mm by comparison. Hope this helps
