What are the laws for assisted opening knives in Missouri. My son had a Buck Rush taken from him at the Arch in St. louis, I was not with him. I called the security officer there he said I could pick up the knife, but I would have to pay a $300 fine because he said it was illegal for anyone to carry in Missouri.

I am a former LEO in NYC and as I read it, it is not a switchblade for the same reason as NY law...the pressure is applied to the blade not the handle and you must overcome resistance to make it open.....It maybe wiser to lose the knife though as if they choose to charge you it would be far more costly.....

Yeah you're probably right, Tom. The reason I thought it sounded iffy was the part that said "button or other device located on the handle" and I wouldn't be 100% positive a judge would acknowledge the difference between that and pressing on a part of the blade. Especially with knives like the Kershaw Boa and such that have a little flipper sticking out.

Two thoughts:

1) Even if you are in the right, if they want to issue you the ticket, you'll have to spend the time and money beating it. And that means convincing the judge that you are right and the LEO was wrong.

2) They might still get you on centrifugal opening.
