I saw a knife handle made of that cactus I think and it was filled with black epoxy, could have been Mr. Goo. Pretty wild......Randy

The piece I have left will make two knife handles so I'm working on a blade for one of them. I used hard wood dowel to add a bit of strength to one shaker I made, for a knife handle I would do the same or run the tang right through the handle and do a pommel caps maybe. Neat stuff to work with.

That turtle shell rattle is beautiful, the handle wood looks like a lot of what liters the ground in the Tecate area of Baja California where I grew up. My mother has a rattle like that, it is much smaller made from a desert turtle shell its very old, I try to get some pictures of it later on. I have always wondered what they put on the inside of it to make the noise?

Hey Ed
I used corn in the one in the picture. The other shaker made from cow horn can be taken apart so the sound can be changed. For some Ceremony copper is the sound you want. The cowhorn shaker was meant as stock but when I put the sound in it I decided it was my new Sweat Lodge shaker.
Would love to see your Mothers rattle.
Keep safe Brother

Best regards

Robin
