I'm a big fan of GECs #53/54 models, fairly large knife (4 1/8") for pocket carry, but plenty of blade for my use.

I guess it was 3-4 weeks ago that I picked up a #48 Western Trapper from a forum member. Nice genuine stag, I think I posted a pic in another thread. But while sharpening the 'little guy' (less than 4") I noticed that the #48 clip blade is longer than the clip blades on both my Tidioute muskrat and walden cattle knife.

GEC has packed a large blade in that sub 4" #48 frame. I may need a few more.

Apologies for the lack of pics, but I just don't have them down yet. Maybe someone with a better camera will post a few :)

#48 is probably my favorite pattern. A great size in hand and lots of blade length too. I don't have one or a #53 in front of me right now but IIRC its main blade was 3" tip to bolster and the clip on the #48 is about 1/8 longer. Here's an older pic with a #48 Jack but I think the main blade is the same as in the Westerns.

And here are my only 2 Westerns

I have a beautiful elk handled #48 with stainless blades which I carry and use. If the secondary blade was a Wharncliffe, I might carry nothing else.

I have to agree Jeff, I love the elk on that one. I really like the look of the little fissures.
