Assymetric Edge Noob question

Just got my first Busse - lucky me! :-)

But after reading about them, and looking at them, having one in my hands brings a very practical questyion to mind - a question that I had not really considered before I got it.

How do I tell which side of the edge is appleseed and which side is flat ground?

I can't really detect the diff by touch or observation.
I can feel there is a difference, but I can't decide which side is which by feel.

I have read that the side witht he wider grind is the flat edge, but I can;t really discern that by eye either.
They both look pretty close to me.
I have had another Busse owning freind take a look and he can't work it out either.

One day I am gonna want to touch up the blade and I just can;t work out which side is which.

So how do you tell?

Is it the same for all Busses?

Thanks for any pointers.

If you can't tell by eye then the curvature isn't significant enough to make any difference. They are hand ground so expect variation, on mine it was pretty obvious visually that the wide bevel was significantly convex. You can also lay a straight edge on it and see if it makes contact all along the bevel.

First of all congrats on your first piece of INFI.

Second, what did you get?

Third, where are the PICS?

Forth, for the asymm grind you should be able to tell pretty clearly which side is which. One side will be relatively straight and in line with the grind and the other will be convex, i.e. rounded like a circle or sphere. The asymm grind was used on the older line of Busses the newer blades all have a convex edge on them.

Finally, welcome to the forum! You might also want to visit the Busse Combat forum at http://bussecombat.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi and also check out www.badmojo.tv to bone up on Busse history.

Ah, well that probably explains all.
I didn't realise new blades were not asym.
