ASTK temper question

Hello all, I recently purchased an ASTK off the DOTD made by Lachu Kami and took it to a piece of dry 2x12 and the blade had some rolls in the sweet spot. So I took the chakma and straightened them out and today went at the 2x12 again. And again there was some deformation of the sweet spot, but not as much as before. Hopefully these pics will work, albeit they were shot on my cell phone. By comparison, my BAS made by Rajkumar (sp?) still looks pretty! I gotta say, I like the ASTK but the BAS is one heck of an all arounder!

and hopefully here's a shot of the BAS after chopping the same wood.

So my question is about the temper on my ASTK too soft?

Thanks in advance!

Sharpen them out and see if it happens again.
If it happens again, Contact Auntie Yangdu for replacement.

Thank you Karda,

I should have thought of that; that same advice has been given often enough!

That's because Himalayan Imports stands behind their work and as I have experienced they make top quality knives.
Too bad about your knife. If re-sharpening it doesn't work. Auntie Yangdu has your back though.
Got your back.jpg

Regarding ASTK keep me update
Thank you

Will do Auntie, I hope to get to it this weekend. I'll keep you advised. I very much appreciate your customer support. Not many places where such personal involvement is the norm and not the exception. Thank you.

i'd even go so far as to convex it good and hard (worksharp cough keep it cool cough), and hopefully that does it.

i had a heck of a time fixing up my favorite GRS, VERY hard steel and the hand laber removing some nicks was a pain. worksharp tool? a few minutes and a bucket of water to make sure it's chilly? perfection. love that tool. love my GRS :) old old old school that is. the blade looks like it went through hell (patina of doom), but well :) it's a keeper.

Just a quick update (sorry no picks) but I used my paper wheels on just that section of the blade, took out the dings and polished back up. Chopped some more on the same 2 X 12 and still got some dings in the blade but less than originally. I'm going to re-sharpen on the belt sander as it's the best tool for getting a true convex and then try again. Since the dings are lessening with each successive sharpening, I'm starting to think that I'm starting to get down the the better steel. And so folks are clear, not trying to flame anyone, just trying to learn and to share my experience. I really, really, really want this ASTK to work out. Unfortunately, it still won't stop me from eventually getting a M43, I don't think anything else will scratch that itch.
