Did Busse Knives ever experiment with an Asymmetrical blade shape?
I received a folder yesterday with an Asymmetrical blade and I'm really impressed!

ummm.........yes!

Jerry might have invented it;);):D

You need to pay better attention in class;):D

Ive seen

SHBM
Barfs
SJ's
BAIII
SHe

I am sure there are others I left out...these came to mind immediatley, but yes.....many of the old line had the assymetrical edge.

ITs a great edge!

KH---Is this blade geometry no longer used or is it on hold?
This blade design is like a new candy!!

I havn't seen one on a factory Busse in a while. You never know with Busse though, we could see it again one day.

I think the last blades where the SJ's or BAIII's that had it, but its before my time. An older Hog than I would know better, but I do know that alot of people where uncomfortable with sharpeing em etc. They were different and folks werent really use to em so they kinda went away.

The truth is that it is a very easy edge to sharpen and maintain. Also, big paper cutting machines and some other industrial cutting machines use an assymetrical edge

What is the purpose/reason for this edge design?

They are easy to sharpen? A couple swipes on the V-grind side with a ceramic rod and strop the wire off the convex side.

I just saw KH's post... and yep.

There was a pretty wide consensus that people preferred a symmetrical or convex edge on their Busse knives.

If I remember right, the BAIII's were the final regular offering to have an asymmetrical edge. Nobody cared when the asymmetrical edge was gone.

HOGS---I get some pix up asap.
One side of the blade is a FFG, or slightly convex, and the other is flat with the edge bevel. Strong, sharp and EZ to sharpen. I really like it. Is this the same blade shape as Jerry's?

Ken44---Thanks for the pix!
I'll try to have pix up tonight! The Camera is at school.

Wrong. I was sad to see it go, as were others.

But

Its not gone, its still offered as an edge option. I have a FBM with an asymetrical edge.

The SHSJ I just acquired ()has the asymmetric edge and I kinda like it. It looks like like a lopsided V-grind; Not much convex observed. Sharpmaker works fine but I should probably treat the convex side as such.

Lycosa, Jerry has put out an asymetrical edge, but the actual blade grinds are still symetrical. I know of at least one maker here who makes knives with a full flat grind on one side and a full convex on the other, and by all reports they are cutting machines!

Thanks, Walter!
At the Lewisburg Knife Show i was able to test-cut with this asymmetrical blade and let me tell you---seeing is believing!
It's sharpness rivals my Leu blades.
