At BLADE 2015

Actually, it was a little tame compared to the last few years. I didn't get knocked down even once, and the only blood I saw shed was from a wayward card deflection. I did stomp the tips of someone's fingers though, but not on purpose, I swear!

As a first timer I had momentary concern. You sure knew when it was time for the event to start. They did a great job pumping up the energy in the crowd. They could be heard across the room. I didn't know the rules of the game but jumped in anyway on Saturday. One man had a fishing net to help catch the cards. On Sunday still the crowd but they were much more friendly. I over heard one high energy individual say he just wanted to play the game and get the cards. I let him know what I was looking for and he took pity on this newbie. He gave me one of the cards I wanted :) I'll be better prepared next year. I'm a quick learner.

I see me in that pic. It was quite the experience. One 20ish kid came and pushed his way in beside me at one offering, saying, "excuse me." I didn't pay him any attention and a few moments later when Josh was holding up cards, he said, "What are these--free?" I looked at him sideways for a moment before deciding it was a serious question. I said, "No, no; it's $427." He and his ?dad? promptly left.

At the 1000 offering, when it was almost over, my friend came up from behind me, grabbed me by my pack, and was jerking me around, saying, "Get out of the way, man; get out of the way!" Someone next to me said, "Yeah, pick the biggest one, and tell him to get out of the way."

Then at the 1400, a card sailed over all our heads and landed on the floor behind the chains. A couple was walking by and the man picked it up. He and his female companion were discussing what they had and looked confused. About 10 seconds later, I said, "Did you want that?" He handed it to me and they walked off. Not everybody gets it.

And by the way, Eric may have had a dip net, but he was catching nothing. :)

What are the cards and how do they work? Never been to Blade but I'm sure I will some day!

You are very welcome Floridaclipper...
Esdunbar, they throw out cards representing different knives offered at discounted prices.
If you catch it yiu get to buy it (if you want it), if you get something you do not want, you trade it for a card from someone else in the crowd....

Thanks for the help. It was a lot of fun. :) I ended up going home with 2 from this booth and a picture of Jerry and I. What a warm welcome.

I also need to give a huge thank you to one of the reps. I believe his name is Doc. He gave me a crash course on the steel, the different lines, some of the history, and showed me the models that were available that fit my needs. He brought them to me so I didn't have to fight the crowd to see them. He was incredibly patient with all my questions.

As for crazy, I was confused when I was asked if I had "started a box". Later it became clear what they meant. When I went to pay they were bringing out boxes FILLED with knives that individuals had selected. That's a lot of knives! I see these knives are pretty addicting :)
