I have dozens of them from 8" to 2 feet and you can't forge them, grind them, dull them and I hate to throw them away.......But today I needed a small draw knife. I stuck one through a potato with enough exposed to form the arms of a draw knife, heated it with the torch and bent it, did the other end, ground the bevel off the arms using a disk grinder and mounted handles. Worked like a charm. Now I'll have draw knives in all sizes and shapes.

There is a use for everything...even D2!

Where are you guys getting these D-2 planer blades?

The only planer blades I've ever found were some M-2 HSS blades and an unknown straight Carbon steel(manufacturer wouldn't fess up the steel type over the phone because he said I could be a competitor:rolleyes: ). They ground into some awesome knives but they were only 5/8" wide and 1/16" thick so you are a bit limited with style of knives you could make with'em. Made great cutting puukko type knives though.

All the best,
Mike U.

Outstanding Peter!!
Lmao, you could give a knife maker a busted rock and they'd come up with some use for it.
