2000 SFPM is good all around speed.
Slower is good for finish grinding, faster for hogging metal.
Thus some folx have variable speed setups.
After HT, it is important not to bring steel anywhere close to
tempering tems. Under 200F should be safe.
Finish most of the blade BEFORE the HT, this way after you only
have to remove very little metal. Some oxidation/decarb layer,
few thou at most.
Unfortunately, leaving the edge too thin might lead to blade
warping during HT, so don't go below 30 thou at the cutting edge.
Another reason not to leave too much metal before HT is that you will
have to remove it all after HT/tempering , when it is hardened. Not much
fun.
