I have been cruising Bladeforums for about 2 years now. Recently, it has come to my supervisors attention that much of the content is "inappropriate". Not sure just why. got a meeting tommorow morning to find out just WTF. Not sure just where this might lead, but it is possible I might lose my job due to "in appropriate" internet access. I do know that there is places here that I can access that are not right for work, and do go out of my way to avoid that when at work. I am not complaining, just wanted to get the info out to those who might inadvertantly find themselves in the same place as me. For what it might be worth, PLEASE, don't change. Just be aware that in the ever increasinmg world of political correctness, that this stuff happens. (Spark, if I do get fired, might I be elegible for a free membership?). Not complaining, just saying, and wanted others to know.

I'm aware that a lot of companies have begun cracking down, and some of the URL filters have already flagged bladeforums.com as a weapons-related site, and therefore "unacceptable."

Your best defense is to state you did not have reason to believe a site devoted to collectors and enthusiasts was inappropriate, but will curtail your casual checking on company time completely. And thank them for letting you know, as you certainly wouldn't want to attract any undue attention.

On the other hand, if you were spending six hours here every day on the clock, you're screwed.

I'm one of a handful of people at work with unrestricted internet access, and I have never logged on to Bladeforums from work.

I'm far from being politically correct, but my employer pays me to do a job, not surf the web for my enjoyment. My home page is the same as it is here at home, and I do read news, and quick headlines, but I do not cruise the net in general unless it pertains to my job.

I have had the I.T. guys ask me some questions regarding a couple of websites I visit, so they understood why I was there. After I explained, there was no problem.

My boss cruises the net more than any of us. He's the boss, so he gets to do that. I don't.

Michdad, I hope it works out for you, and you get to keep your job.

This really isn't Bladeforums business, in the sense that there is nothing Bladeforums can do about it. So I've moved this to Community Center.

In a way, I sympathize with you. From the other point of view, I can't see why an employer would condone an employee visiting any non-work websites, for entertainment, on the job.

I can empathize with you. I now work out of my home and in the field. My work issued me a laptop with a wireless card, so I am plugged in, and log into BF while waiting for my appointments to show up. If you sit at a desk and are ADDHD like myself, change jobs, grab a tool box, and work out in the field. It is freeeedom baby! My previous employment was a desk job in a cubicle and I found myself distracted way too often. I was very unhappy, and not too productive. I thank God that I found a job that really fits who I am. I take the good weather with the bad, and all the rest in between, oh and I get to use my knives too. Not sure if this is a good alternative or not, just a suggestion.

Thanks for moving this to a more appropriate place. Nope, I wasn't implying that this is Bladeforums business in any way whatsoever. I don't use the 'net at work for entertainment, I use it as an alertness tool. I run computer controlled chemical processing equipment, and moniter up to 15 computer screens at once. Things can get pretty tedious, especially on the midnight shift, when everything is running well. I just wanted to let others know, so that they might have the opportunity to avoid the same troubles.

BTW, the question about free membership was meant ONLY as a little bit of levity after a very rough day. I apologize if it didn't come across as such.

I remember radio communications on midnights ... cold black coffee and eyeballs bleeding out of my head ... nothing on the air until the sun came up.

There's got to be a better way! Are they going to back off on this?

Nope, just have to make sure I have my facts and integrety appropriately in order, be able to intelligently state that much, and hope for the best.

After over 2 months of tension, wondering, and worrying. I finally got a partial spanking last Friday. I am being removed from my department, and will have a black mark against me that will limit me from being eligable for the higher paying jobs (like I have now) for up to 2 years. Company is interpreting the links that I have clicked on that weren't obvious as not work appropriate (read adult) that came up as "Acess Denied" as attempts to go there. In my innernert ignorance, I thought to myself that that was a good thing, as they were protecting me from getting myself into trouble. Aint being interpreted tht way. My imediate supervisor has an ununderstandable grudge against me, which I don't understand, which I don't like to talk about, cause it makes me sound like a screwup offering nothing but excuses.

I am to remain on my job, on my shift until it is convient for the "compamy to cover the open shift." The company expects me to perforn well while this time is passing. Not that this is a problem, but I don't know if I am working the midnight shift tomorrow untill around noon tomorrow.

Much that they are complaioning about is adult sites (be careful what you click ) and ......... I DON"T click on them!!!

I am in no way complaining, just hoping to help others from finding themselves from the same kind of troubles I am i now.

Sorry to hear this, MD. I was afraid what you are talking about was going to happen.

I can peruse this from work if absolutely nothing else is going on but I'm very careful to only go to community and the makers stuff. Too risky for some of the other portions.

Chin up!

Just tell them you collect pocket knives such as slip joints and that you surf this site while at lunch and there is nothing in appropriate about this site. If they wish to restrict acess to this site while at work no big deal to you. I hope you do not lose your job. They are hard to come by...:(
