I'm looking for opinions from ATAX USERS on the ATAX! What do you find you use it for most?
How do you carry it normally?

Thanks!

Amazing how some things just don't end up as useful as advertised...

Apparently there are no regular users of ATAXs.

I saw the thread earlier but had no idea what you were talking about. Just "ATAX" is just pretty vague. Is it some fringe knife people are supposed to automatically recognise on a first name basis?

I googled it and found the tops ATAX. Was that what you were refering to?

I don't own one. It looks like they combined the classic inuit ULU knife and the tomahawk. Then added a bunch of marginally useful gimmicks to it.

In a wilderness setting the useful bits will be the ULU / tomahawk features. Looking the ATAX it is more ULU than tomahawk. So it will be doing its best work skinning large game and chopping it up into squares on a cutting block. I can't imagine it being a very good axe and seeing as your going to need both a sharp skinner and a tough chopper I don't see why you would want to combine them.

It seems to me that this knife is having a bit of an identity crisis. If you want an ULU hunting knife that do a bit more in a pinch it might make sense. I wouldn't leave my watch, fire starter, compass, or wire cutters at home though since the dedicated tools are going to do a much better job.
