Im really taken by the idea of a knife that converts into a hawk head ive got three blades in the running but im really looking for other idea's

First up is the Tops Atax, This model has many attributes and functioning like a Ulu is quite usful as a food prep tool and when in axe mode the handle could even be used as a hammer. Also its desighn alows lashing down the axe handle about four inches so it doesnt depend just on the slot for strenght.

Next is the Vectors001 hawks Eco Hawk, Its really basic very light, unfortunatly it doesnt really function as a stand alone knife very well and its has only the slot groved into the handle for strenght.

Last Is the RS6 Mohawk (Disclamer, im including this because its the only other model I know of this desighn, im well aware of rs6 ban/lying/posible chinesse import, im sure the list goes on  etc.....) The mohawk is very light also its desighn in knife form reminds me of a Razel, it still suffers in hawk form for having only the slot for strenght. Also, in hawk form the handle protudes past the haft a few inches.

Basicaly im looking for feedback from users in the field, also any other makers producing this desighn.

Thanks in advance.

Have you looked at this one?

That's the Eco hawk he mentions.

Although it's not "Victors", it's the Equinox Coronado Eco Hawk (made by TOPS, I believe), designed by Vector001.

BTW it works fine as a knife.

Yeah he said Victors, I have had real bad luck trying to read into posts lately so i took it quite literally. ;)

I edited the post for the spelling, and yes the eco hawk works as a knife its just a little akward with the spike and no handle.

have you considered talking to a maker, buying a piece of knife steel, and making it the way you want it, and then send it into the maker for heat treat? Or just send YOUR design off to a maker and ask them to quote you and work with you on your design.

Can't go wrong with personal choice, I'm sure someone would / could work with you on the project.

did you buy one?

or are you just guessing?

the ECO Hawk was designed to be modified.

it is supposed to be tough but a minimum until you refine it to your particular desires, brother.

some brethren make the end into a chisel tip for advanced field chores.

i meant to do that to mine, but i've had good luck with the micro-poll on it, as it comes in stock condition.

others spike the tip.

get your stone out.

the ECO Hawk's got lots of handy holes in it to add scales if you like, and the temper is conducive to making the spike's primary knife edge (especially) into a very fine grind. - i had TOPS grind it steep as it is to make it tougher, and with a little study, you should be able to get shavings off of wood with yours in stock condition. - i am gradually convexing my edge on my personal ECO....

you might also be using the blade perpendicularly to whatever you are trying to cut - the angle on the tanto/spike is made so that it uses slice instead of drag to cut.

a lot of folks aren't use to that.

..........

the ATAX is very good IMHO, but it and the ECO Hawk are for different purposes - the ATAX is much heavier than the ECO's 7.1 Ounces, so you are less likely to carry it, especially since it is much bulkier that an ECO, which can be slipped between a couple pieces of leather and tossed in your bag top be ready for just about any contingency.

the ECO is intended to be an economical tool that is small footprint in ratio to its level of utility.

an ATAX should outchop the ECO Hawk (if you don't add weight to the ECO's haft), but you have to pack that weight, and pay that premium - that's not necessarily a bad thing in my eyes. meanwhile - an ECO will be easier to use as a draw knife, and is probably safer in most respects when hafted compered to the ATAX, plus (arguably) the ECOHhawk has more modes than the ATAX. - most folks aren't concerned with those (until they see them :D:thumbup:)

an ATAX and an ECO Hawk are a good pair when miniaturization is your priority, ...versus being considered as competitior designs in purpose IMHO.

i designed the ECO Hawk to be more like a knife on a long handle, with hawk-like characteristics. - it also worked a lot better than i imagined as a knife, and folks seem to prefer it that way for multiple uses.

whatever. just as long as they like it.

we are just now getting some video going on our tools, which are admittedly offbeat a tetch, but i think their utility, once considered, is hard to beat.

we'll get around to making vectorized handles for the ATAX too. my advice is to get one of each - i don't know about the ATAX's, but ECO hawks are covered with a Lifetime Happiness Guarantee.....

wives and long-haired bunkies really like both the ATAX and the ECOs though, be warned! - so consider what you can spend first when yours goes missing, brethren!

I WISH I WAS KIDDING.

HAR!

respectfully submitted,

It's great that you posted vector, I was going to hit you up for rehandling my 2hawks warbeast. I do think the eco hawk is a great desighn. Im mainly posting to see if any other makers are producing any other products. Personaly I wont use a hawk with a spike, I dont like the idea of a spike facing me while swinging. I also dont like a blade on both sides of my hand it just makes me uncomfotable but for anyone else the eco hawk is a great bug out kit item.

What im really looking for is a hawk hammer combo, somthing like a schatchet
