ATC Hawks compared to RMJ Forge Hawks????

I was thinking of getting an American Tomahawk “Minuteman” Collector Grade tomahawk, then I saw some pictures of the RMJ Forge pipe hawks, which I think are pretty cool. I want it mostly for throwing. Does anyone know how strong the RMJ Forge pipe hawks are? The American Tomahawks come with a life time warrantee on the heads. Does Ryan Johnson offer any such type warrantee? Has anyone ever thrown an RMJ Forge hawk? Do you know how strong they are compared to the American Tomahawks? Can they handle such use (abuse)??

Thank you

I'll be the first one to say that Ryan's work is exceptional. I own one of his plain poll Hawks and it is a gem of a thrower.

They are hand-made, by him, one at a time, and his work is exceptional.

In my judgement, between the two models you outlined, it would just be a matter of personal preference in getting what you want. You won't be disappointed with either.

Thank you Andy,
How much are the RMJ Forge hawks? There are no prices (that I could find anyway) on the site. And I couldn't find any for sale anywhere. I really like this one: http://www.johnnyboom.net/images/tomahawks/rmjtomahawk.jpg

And how 'bout the wood handles on your Rogers' Rangers hawks? They aren't covered by the warranty are they? If I get one and throw it a lot will the handle brake soon? And they're supposed to be easy to replace, right? Do they shake loose?

I'd agree with Andy in saying that Ryan's stuff is top notch and it does come down to a personal preference. I own 2 ATC Hawks and am eyeing Ryan's dealer list to snag a "Crash Axe"...With that said, you will wait an extremely long time for one of Ryan's pieces. I believe he's not even taking any new orders until he finishes his remaining ones and is focusing more on Militay demands and so forth. I'd say 2 years would be a fair bet, prolly longer. He does however have some overruns that have been popping up here and there. "Tadgear" just got a Pipe hawk in last week, but it was gone in a few hours. There one of Ryan's dealers so that would be a place to check, the rest are on his website.

Good luck as I've been waiting for an Eagle Talon from RMJ for over a year now and none have come up for sale.

IMO you're comparing apples to oranges. I am a huge fan of both ATC & RMJ, but each has their niche. Ryan's pipe hawks are sturdy and well made, but the cross section is not as thick as that of the ATC RR hawks. Thick enough, but the RR hawks are thicker, which means less likely to break. If you're looking for a model to really throw a lot, go with either an ATC synthetic handle Hawk or a RMJ Talon. Plus there is the price difference to consider between a RR hawk and a RMJ pipe hawk. Buying an RMJ pipe hawk as your daily thrower would be no different than buying a Shelby Cobra GT500 to enter in the demolition derby circuit--you know that eventually you're going to destroy it. I think a pipe hawk looks a lot better hanging on the hearth above my fireplace than it does sitting in 2 or 3 pieces in the bottom of my projects box.

BTW, Ryan does NOT offer a warranty to cover throwing related damage with his pipe hawks, unless he has changed his policy in the last year or so, which I doubt. I think his one-piece Talon hawks do, though. They're pretty hard to break.
