Today I received the ATC Roger's Rangers Spike Tomahawk that I've been wanting for "quite awhile" now, and I must say that I am totally pleased with it!! This Spike 'Hawk is nothing like the Roger's Rangers Light Infantry model that I had awhile back (not to knock the [DC'd] Light Infantry model), but this Spike 'Hawk is alot lighter, and swings wonderfully. The grinds are excellent, and even the forge hammer marks are cool and "even".

This RR Spike 'Hawk is AWESOME, and just holding it makes me feel like a pirate...(Maybe I've watched the movie; "Pirates of the Caribbean" too many times...:D.).

Now, I have to decide which one I like the best; My Lagana VTAC, or my RR Spike 'Hawk...(It would be really cool to have a RR Spike 'Hawk with the same handle as my Lagana VTAC [but 16 inches long]...That would be TOTALLY AWESOME!!.).

Anyhow...Thank-You, ATC (and Andy) for making such AWESOME 'Hawks!!...Yours ARE THE BEST!!

i've had a rr spike since they first appeared in cutlery shoppe. and yes they are awesome  do you know how it compares strenght wise to the vtac and ngr?

Well thats it... I'd better start saving up for the Spike 'hawk.

BTW, does the handle come loose after heavy use (i.e, chopping, sessions of throwing)? Thats one problem I've had with the CS Rifleman.

i left mine in the back off my truck one night and it had a little wiggle to it the next day but when the moisture dried up it was once again solid as ever. it has never worked loose when chopping hard wood. i've only hurled it a couple of times and it survived that also :) the only thing i am disappointed with is the sheath or lack there of.
btw i have an old plainsman hawk from cs that has loose handle problems so i know how aggravating that can be. i never tried it but i thought those langetes they sell for the war hammer would fix the problem

Because I haven't had my RR Spike 'Hawk long enough to abuse yet :D, I can't answer your question about it coming loose, but I DO know that the ATC and the Cold Steel 'Hawks aren't even CLOSE to being in the same league...I have a Cold Steel Vietnam Tomahawk that I've customized that is just a wall hanger, for fear that it'll explode if I toss it at anything.

The plainsman is the non-hammer poll version of the Rifleman. The Rifleman weighs 32 ounces so i don't want those langettes on it making it heavier.
Well, us Cold Steel 'hawk throwers have it bad. My Rifleman can't take that much abuse. Whats the point of a heavy-duty hawk if you can't use it heavily?

Dan,

Feel free to abuse your tomahawk mercilessly; :D it'll take it which is why we guarantee the heads for life.

Handle loosening and even breakage happens but those straight-grained hickory handles will take a lot of abuse. We sell spare handles if you break it and if it's really dry in your area you may find that you get a little loosening. The handles are still 18% moisture. If you have any loosening, give us a call and we'll get you on the right track.

You can solve the sheathing problem by contacting Rob at Survival Sheath and have him make you a custom belt sheath, shoulder rig or blade cover.
