Back side large view of Buck area. We do not pay for tables to display, Blade required we give up one row on the back side for paying sellers and were given two tables spaced out on ends of other rows to our back. Volunteers setup their displays on those "islands" and I am sure felt a little left out. This photo was taken Friday morning before the crowd got really heavy. I have to get individual photos before the people arrive on Friday afternoon and Sat. Sun can still be crowded with some people still walking thru the BCCI area up to the finish at Sunday 2:00 pm
Tims other granddaughters display. Youth is a major push for BCCI at any display show.
Here in the background in front of Larry Odens display and the BCCI sale table, Steve Shackleford of Blade Magazine is giving a interview to the youth members under direction by Brent. Club President John is checking his emails. Youth members go on a sort of scavenger hunt interviewing various people asking questions that lets them learn the history of the club and history of Buck knives.
If you have a desire to attend the Blade Show with your Buck knives on display there are several considerations to take into account. The public portion of the show runs from Friday at noon till Sun at 2:00pm. Judging of the displays takes place on Sat night for Blade awards and BCCI displayers judge each other Friday afternoon for knife awards during the BCCI general meeting on Sat. afternoon. There are awards, prizes during the meeting and knife sales are held at the end of the meeting. Larry or John can provide you with a judging list that will help you in building a display. Large or small this sheet will give you all the requirements the judges consider. A well organized small display will garner as many points as a mega display. If you just want to come and set a display box of your knives out that is OK also. For safety and security you should have your knives in some type of picture frame type box. Tables are not used for selling knives but some selling goes on behind the displays. As always if you just ask for advice you will be helped with all the details. You are not required to stay with your display, many folks disappear into the crowd for hours at a time. Some emerge clutching some rare Buck knife they found in some corner of the building. People do come up with knives to sell, I thought of some of you when a guy offered to sell me a almost mint 317 for $50 with the sheath......The Atlanta Braves are building a new ballpark within walking distance of the Convention Center so that will be another attraction in the future.
This guy came around looking for info. We got him with Larry and they worked out the knife he wanted info about was a old 124. He has promised to get us all the info including photos and a newsletter story should emerge. Seems he left his Grandfathers 124 with a good friend when he fled Cuba and just recently, guess what his friend was a true friend and returned the knife.
The days at the Blade Show are filled with visual sights, walking and talking. And sometimes it can be too much and you have to chill out. Even fairy princesses.
