Atlanta Cutlery sells these "Small Companion Blades" for about $19. They are apparently 1085 steel, 15.5" in length, and 1/8" thick. They are made in India by AC's contractor there, Windlass Cutlery. Does anybody have experience with their stuff, i.e. heat-treating? Would make an interesting bush knife project if they are decent quality....

Windlass Steelcrafts owns Atlanta Cutlery. Their carbon blades are supposed to be good when they are good, and their customer service will replace them if the heat treat didn't quite make it. They are worth trying.

Esav,

Thanks for the info and the correction. It's interesting that in AC literature it appears the relationship is the other way around.. I suppose for the effort of putting a couple a couple grips on the blade, its worth the risk..

Atlanta Cutlery, like... close enough to go and see one in person??

(work in downtown atl!)

It's Cheap enough to try one out, Give It a simple Para-Cord wrap Handle and It's good to go, If this Is there Small I'd like to see the Big Companion !

I have been once a long time ago, and unless it has changed they are also part of Museum Replicas (swords, armor, etc.). Lots of cool stuff. When I went they didn't have a showroom, but you could pick up a catalog and find something you wanted to see and they would go get it for you.

I went a couple of times and that's how it was then, too. Interesting place. As Hobo -Jack,though,it was at least 10 years ago .

It look good. Maybe worth a try for $19.

I would think so. The only thing I ever bought from AC was a couple of old khuks, the edges needed a lot work, but they weren't too bad...

The cord wrap on the grip makes sense, give it a trial beating before taking the time to grip it...I had the same thought on the "small" designation, I don't actually see a listing for the full-size companion on their site...

I think they are associated with Museum Replicas (maybe Esav knows for sure..). Their site uses the term "showroom", but I suppose that can maen a lot different things... Did you buy a blade when you were there??
