Look up the Georgia Knifemaker's Guild. Very active group, likely several in the Atlanta area.

Georgia is ripe with knifemakers. Wherever you are there is one not too far away from you. My shop is in Cumming GA and you are welcome to stop by. Depending where you are in the Atl, there may be closer alternatives. Certainly, there are lots of options with WAY more skills than myself as well. Let me know where you are and what method you want to try, and I can direct you to the best person to contact. (IE, I do stock removal and cannot teach you much about forging, but there are also a lot of forgeries you can contact if you're just angry at steel for some reason.)

We also have an excellent guild, the Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild. We have quarterly meetings held at various shops around the state and encourage anyone to attend. Its a teaching guild and at each meeting there are three demo's. There are several makers I consider to be master craftsmen in the guild and they have been very helpful to my knife making jorney. Our next meeting is scheduled for Feb 8 and will be held in Statesboro Ga at the Twin Blades shop. The twins are masters and you can learn a lot just from seeing their shop.

In addition to all of this, Carl Rechsteiner (definitely one of the masters in the guild) holds a bi-annual hammer in at the gorgeous Trackrock Campground. The next one will be in April-ish. I suggest no one that loves knives miss this event. The people, the scenery, and the craftsmanship are definitely worth a look.

Yep, there are a bunch of very talented makers in ATL. I'm in Peachtree Corners, a little north east of the city.

Hi Andy - Haven't thought about it yet, to be honest. Would love to, just not sure I can swing it with the kids. How long is the drive down there?

I hear there is a pretty good knife show there each June, too :)

Haha. Why didn't I think to include that? LOL.

Its a good 4+ hour drive. About 50 miles shy of Savannah. Its worth it. There'll be kids there. We're family friendly. Bring em. Also, come by the shop if you're ever up 400.
