I want to thank everyone that put up with me this past week-end. I HAD A BLAST! I went in thinking I was picking up two knives that I had on order...NEITHER was there. I didn't mind, thinking I didn't need to spend money anyway. SKIP...

NEXT DAY... Saturday, I told myself I wouldn't be selfish... I bought a G.Woodhead dagger, 1850's, for Patti (my better half).
I walked away feeling pretty good. TWO HOURS LATER... SELF IS BACK! I bought a Padel..New Orleans 1850's reproduction from Jim Batson, (MAN I LOVE HIM) It's like my Black style in that it it simple and CLASS, CLASS, Class! It is one of my favorites. I told myself, self you did o.k. You didn't go overboard...you will sleep tonight! I did.

Sunday...a whole other day!;) Dale Baxter, who got his JS stamp over the week-end, gave me a knife!!!!!!!!!!! I cried... teary eyed anyway. Everything was GRAND...and then it got better! Before the day was out I had aquired a bowie from Jason Knight (one of his JS submissions), a Roger Green Shefield bowie, AND A MICHAEL CONNOR spear point bowie. I was a little happy;)

Oh, I forgot to mention a small thing...I had told Roger Massey to make me something...HE DID!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A D-guard bowie with ladder pattern and beautiful walrus. CLASS, CLASS, CLASS! He is making a nickle throat and tip sheath for it. BUT, that's not the best part;

The best part of this show, as well as all shows for me, is never ever the knives. It's the people. PERIOD! I hope you can understand... I AM TRUELY BLESSED! I won't try to name them because I would be here for a day typing and would sure to leave someone out. I can't wait till next year!!!!!!!!!

It was great to see you. Folks we are lucky to have this guy around.

Darby, BTW, it gets better and better every year!
Gus

Darby!!!!

Folks, this is one cool guy. Darby pointed out things to me that you can look for at a knife show, that I honestly never even thought about....beyond just the knives on the table. Some great reminders that even the very best of the best knifemakers are just PEOPLE that make great knives. Those that deliver the whole package are very very good PEOPLE too. :) Sounds almost too simple, but think about it the next time you go to a show.

Keep an eye on this guy, I know I will!!! (and hope he keeps one on me) :D

An enjoyable read. Truly, thou art a man blessed in so many ways, Darby! :)

Darby,

I really like reading about your knife adventures. It inspires me to seek some of my own. Thanks.

Gus, Ron,...true friends...love ya'll.

Nick, COUNT ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Golok, wish I could meet you in person; I think YOU get it!

Geode, seek PEOPLE!

Two more things;

1st, I also ordered a B. Bradshaw whittler.

2nd, KEITH, WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO COME TO BLADE??????????????????????????????????????????

Darby,
True pleasure finally meeting up with you at show - saw & handled that incredibly beautiful D-guard when over talking with Roger - didn't realize it was yours at time - that is one super piece of work - for first D-guard ever I think Roger did okay :D :D :D

That piece from Jason was pretty awesome too - disappointed didn't get to see the Connor bowie - hope you have it with you next year!

Take care!
Bill

I just arrived from Atlanta tonight, took a couple of extra days to visit Rade Hawkins and one of my customers in Raleigh then a leisurly two day drive back. Quite enjoyable week but nobody told me that Atlanta has a rainy season this time of year, incredible amount of rain going and returning plus at least twice a day while we were there.

That show is awesome, I couldn't believe the size of the hall being used just for the knife show. I met a lot of nice people, bought some great handle materials and had a nice time...might just do it up right next year instead of sharing a table.

I can't recall the names of the people that I talked to, it is all just a blur.
