I have a question about the Atoma's. I sharpen with the EPP. I bought a Nubatama 150. I needed to flatten it so I used me Atoma 140. I did so under running water. Is that the correct plate to use or should I use something else? I also have one more question about the 140, how high of a waterstone grit level can I use the 140? Thanks in advance. ;)

Sure is!

You can lap any waterstone with the 140 , as you get to the higher grits it can change the feedback and slightly affect the cutting ability of the stones. The pro 5k is a good stone to compare. Lapped with the 140 it becomes much more aggressive , as the 140 scratches are deeper they reduce the actual surface area of the stone presented to the blade , which increases the pressure which in turn causes the scratches to be slightly deeper. Go up through the Atomas , and things get progressively smoother and finer on the same 5k Pro. This type of affect is negligible on softer stones , some of the Nubatamas , Choseras and Superstones. But it can definitely be noticeable on harder stones such as the shaptons.

I use the 140 up to my 1500 Pro , From 2k - 5k I use the 1200 , And beyond that I flatten with the 1200 and texturize with Kens Diamond Films or Tomonagura.
