Got the ATR 2 in today and have been playing with it a lot. My plan was for it to kick the PM 2 out of my pocket and it did. I never really liked the PM 2 because of the handle, to small for my hand and just never felt right. So when I saw the ATR 2 was coming out, the hope for a better EDC was on. So the story goes like this.
I am a Military fan boy big time, I use to EDC one and it was my favorite folder of all time and still is. I have purchased more Military models than most but not all. Then I moved to the great state of Colorado where the Military is made but the knife laws do not permit a blade over 3.5 inches to be carried concealed. So I started carrying the PM2 and while it is ok I just never fell in love with it.

Ok! so why does the ATR 2 kick the PM 2 out of my pocket. Handle feels way better on the ATR 2. I love the G10, and the nested liners but the size and shape is the key. I love the Cobra Hood, I think this should be on more Spyderco Knives, really makes the thumb happy. The handle width and the belly feels as close to perfect for my hand that I have found on a knife. So the big issue I had with the PM 2 (The Handle) is just the opposite with the ATR 2 in which the handle and the Cobra Hood are far better for me.

A few other things about the ATR 2. This knife feels solid and has heft to it but not to much. When you pick it up you know you have a knife in your hand. Yes because it was a new knife, it was stiff but a little oil and working and it feels fine now. Knife carries great in the pocket and is a little thinner 1/32 (a hair) than the PM2. Is it worth the $211.22 price I paid and is the same price all the major online dealers are selling it for. The answer is Yes. I will EDC this knife until I find something better, I just don't think that will ever happen unless Colorado starts letting us carry a 4 inch blade on a folder, then the Military will find its way back into my pocket.

So thanks Spyderco you have a winner in the ATR 2.

always liked that knife...glad its back.

so handles is almost 5"....blade 3.47"......so more handle than blade right? similar to the pm2 in handle to blade ratio?

ill be grabbing one soon enough.

Sorry, working a lot so just no time right now. I know everyone has seen pics and vids of the ATR 2 if not checkout YouTube. One thing I forgot to mention is the choil, the choil cobra hood combo feels great for close up fine work.

As great as the Para 2 is it was just not for me. I’ve had an interest in the ATR older version never could land one for a good price glad Spyderco rereleased it.

I am so glad the ATR 2 has the G10 over the liners, the G10 gives it good grip but not to much. For me I would not want this knife in the old version, would be to slick, I like the grip from the G10. I am so happy to know I will never have to buy a PM2 again. I will pick up a 2nd ATR 2 a little down the road. Someone wrote over at the Spyderco Forum that the G10 may be to rough for pants, I don't think so at all. I want to work with it a lot this coming weekend and do more cutting, but as of yesterday, cut some card board and some paper and shaved a big patch of hair off of my left leg.

Wow I just looked it up, it looks exactly like a worker blade if you take if the swedgey top part.
