Mr. Glesser just stated in the following thread that the ATR is slated for S30V!

here

I have used this steel in a custom Neil Blackwood and have to say that I am quite impressed. A Spyderco with an integral compression lock and S30V will be quite an impressive tool for sure. The waiting is going to be tough though.

S60V is the new name for 440V. I thought that Crucible meant "60" to signify the percentage of vanadium (which is 5.5%) in 440V, and that logic holds for S90V = 420V which has 9% vanadium.

Now that logic sorta falls apart... somewhat.

S30V is an all new steel:
14% chrome
1.45% carbon
2% molyb
4% vanadium

Should be really good stuff if Spyderco takes it up to Rc60 or 61, which I really think they should be able to accomplish. That will make 440V pretty much completely obsolete and without much purpose, IMO.

Yer mistaken. S30V is stainless 3V; supposed to be tough (for a stainless), with very good edgeholding. It's the new steel for Sebenzas.

AWESOME!!! I have heard great things about S30V, and this combined with a titanium, integral compression lock and the Cobra Hood=SWEETNESS
I want the ATR more than ever...

S30V is a special steel made specifically for knives. Most steels like BG-42, D2, etc..... were originally made for something else but S30V is special. I just received a Mike Snody folder yesterday in S30V and it is awesome. Glad to see Spyderco is going to try it. CRK is also using it in some knives now. There is a big article on it in the latest Blade Magazine.

Yeah NCBlades,

I just finished reading that story myself. It was very informative to say the least. I can't wait to get the ATR, I wonder when they will begin shipping to the non Spydie collectors.
