ATR ... left handed?

I saw some videos of the ATR, and it looks like a fantastic knife, and one I would own....but the compression lock looks like it is only made for left handed users.
I like the size, the cobra hood, and even the compression lock....it if was on the other side.
Doesn't it seems reasonable to have the compression lock work on the other scale so it would work for the majority of knife users (since a majority of people are right handed :D)

Just a thought I had...with they had something like that.

Funny, I'm left handed and to me the ATR ald all other Spyderco compression locks except the Gunting are right handed.

I'm right handed and find the comp locks easier to operate with my left. ;) I guess that makes it a totally wrong-handed lock, since righties and lefties both think it's made for their off hand.

Well, I guess that just means I have to get to the knife store to try out a compression lock for myself.
Thanks guys.

I find the ATR lock to be just fine right handed It just depends on how you activate it using your thumb or pointer finger.

the only production folder i ever carry noqadays is a Ti ATR and it works fine for me, i am right handed FWIW, i can open and close mine one handed, with my right hand, which takes some practice but certainly van be done.

the Ti ATR is my fav production folder FWIW, not just my fav spyderco, and the SS ATR isnt too far behind, its an excellent design imho, made with excellent materials with excellent F&F, not much to dislike about them imho.

I have a Ti ATR and a few other Spyderco compression locks. I'm mostly a left-handed knife user. I have to say that of all the Spyderco locks, I find the compression lock the very hardest to close safely with my left hand. I can do it better with my less-coordinated right hand than with my left hand.

Great knife, and the lock is a piece of mechanical inspiration, but it's not LH friendly IMO but YMMV.

compression locks are easy to close right handed.

just reach up and pinch it between index finger and thumb, with your thumb on the handle, and index finger on the lockbar. then swing the blade closed, or let it drop shut.

I've had several Spyderco models over the years that were specifically designed for left hand usage. One of my more recent ones I traded was a CArbon Fiber POLICE model that was left handed.

I personally don't remember either the Titanium or the Stainless ATR models that were ever made in a "left handed" version.

The ATR is a great past model. I still regret trading my pair of Ti ATR models even though I got a lot for them :( I truly believe that the Ti ATR will end up being one of Spyderco's most valuable collector models ever. The Ti ATR was very hard to get even when it was in the line up. It took me 18 months before I located my first one.

I wouldn't be surprised if Spyderco starts to make lefty versions of some of their models again. JD

This is not a problem in any way or form.

There are several great ways of closing the knife both with your right and left hand. If you have any problems, that means you're doing it wrong. It just takes a little practice, that's all.

A video would be great showing how to easily, safely close the ATR with only the left hand.

There's a pretty good explanation at around 1.30 in this vid I think :):

Also, I don't have any videos of it, but if you don't like that one, you can put your index finger on the front of the handle close to the pivot, unhook the c-lock with your thumb and tilt the knife forwards, letting the blade tang fall on your index finger, then just close the knife normally. Like you would on a lockback.

Pretty funny, that's my video! :D It's possible that I'm crossing the framelock-like versions with the linerlock-like versions of the compression lock. I was fiddling around with my Superhawk this weekend and was very frustrated but the ergos are potentially different. So I may need to eat at least part of the crow...wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last, for sure. ;)

I knew it was your video, that's why I posted it :). I'm left handed too and I usually don't have any problems with compression locks. I use the method of letting the finger choil part of the blade tang fall on my index finger and then closing it normally. I sure hope the ergos of the new Paramilitary 2 will be good for closing with left hand too, because as of now, I'm in love with that knife. Will most likely get one. I really like your videos by the way.
