Hello, I was wondering if it would be pheasable to attach a spyderco millitary clip, tip down righ hand, to a spyderco ATR(ss), I am not likely to act immeadiatley, so I am primarily inquiring for future buisness.
I like My atr quite a bit, but like most people, I dislike the clip. I feel that a millie clip would be a good fit, and I would be more likley to use it more regurly than I already do.

I am not sure if it is standard procedure to post, or pm to inquire costs/pheasability. So I hope I'm OK here.
Like I say it is a SS ATR, uncoated, and I do not posses a spare millitary clip, so that falls upon you (correct?)

thankyou for your time- Steve (steeltiger on spyderforums)

I could mount the clip for you but there is a catch.

I don't want to risk trying thread hardened steel that thick. I know some guys will do it but I guess they've never broken a tap off to get it good and stuck in someone elses knife. Its not good. In fact it sucks!

Anyway, what I'd prefer to do if you want and approve it only though, is take the knife and mark the holes I need. Then I'd drill them out using a number 44 carbide drill which as most makers know too large for a 2-56 screw so the screw slides right through the hole since its just oversized.

Then I'd flip the scale over and drill out a partial 1/8" diameter shallow hole into the back side of each of the three holes to mount the clip and I would go down to about 1 mm deep plus or minus and insert a stainless threaded insert in that hole and mount the clip by threading into those inserts with the screws. What this would mean is that it would be risky to take the clip off once I install it.

In fact I'd recommend I loctite those in and you leave them alone or you'll end up losing an insert even if I do tack them in place because in all liklihood it still can't be trusted to hold up indefinite even then.

Your call. I don't have a clip like that to spare. Well, I did, but can't find it. I hope you have one.

If so please read the first post in my pocket clip thread sticky at the top of the page and once you know the routine you can mail it to me at your convenience.

Email me for that though I don't want to make it public or my wife would shoot me and then I wouldn't be able to work on anyone's knives. :D

Thankyou for the quick responce.
yes that method would work well, with locktite, I don't feel inclined to dissasemble the knife myself so its not likley that I'd try to remove a clip job like that.
I don't have a clip, and my guess is you are more in a position to aquire one than I am.

I am not likley to want/need this done anytime soon ( two-six months or longer before I will be willing to ''commit'' to the transaction) but when I am ready I will Email you.

should we talk price here, email, or when I am ready to send the knife to you? I apologize, I am still new to over-the-net-transactions.

Something this small is not much to worry with now. I doubt it will be even my minimum shop fee of $30 to be honest. I had a clip here somewhere. It may be in the shop and its pouring rain right now. My shop is a good hike away so that ain't happening right now. But I'll look for it and if I find it I'll mark it to save it for you.

sure you want to take the risk and hold it that long ( if you can manage to find it, that is:p)

Hee hee, Ive got you cornered, I can drown you in the rain, or get you shot by your wife. I'm drunk with power!:D

With my memory? Geesz I can barely remember if I took my BP med in the morning or if I still need to take it somedays. :D

I may have already given it away to someone and just forgot. about it. But the good news is if thats the case, chances are good I can make one similar to it or very close just from a pic anyways. They run $30 plus shipping so either way you aren't out much.

sounds good I'l contact you when I'm ready.

If you dont mind me hijacking, I have recently come into ownership of a haurbor freight 1x30'' belt sander and I believe its the same as yours, any tips on use? I forget what you primarily use it for, but I would like to start tinkering with some of my cheap knives, so if you dont mind passing along any advice that seems relevent, I would apriciate it.

Yeah, get the ceramic belts from A & H Abrasives for metal grinding. These are the best and when they start slacking a little going one way you can take em off and turn em around to squeeze a bit more life out of each belt since they are bi directional.
