ATR pocket clip

Well, my dream knife arrived (Thanks, Shootist16!) today. Rock-solid, feather-light, badass down to the last electron...

... but the screws were too tight to switch the pocket clip. Adding more force just started to strip them. Has anyone else had this problem?

Other than that, not enough good things can be said about the ATR, its blade, or its indexing holes.

Is it possible that those screws were secured using "permanent" Loctite? If so, you will need to heat them before you try to lossen them. Various instructions have been posted here on how to do that.

I can't think why the permanent stuff would be used on the screws of a reversible clip, though... It may be that they were just plain tightened down too tight.

In any case, make absolutely sure that you have the right size driver. I've stripped more than one by using one-size-too-small of torx driver. :(

Take a small wrench thats fits the driver shaft, have your wife turn the wrench while you aply downward presure.I had to do this to get the screws out of the back spacer of my Milli. Also once I had to use needle nose vise grips to loosen a screw if you do this the screw is gone and needs a new one.

Thanks, Jeff. I'll give the wrench idea a try. The top screw may already be a goner, but I'll try your needle-nose idea if that's the case.

If it is gone and the pliers don't do it take a dremel with a small cutting disk and cut a line straight across the screw head and use a flat srcewdriver.

The needlenose pliers are what worked.

Those buggers were coated in some sort of red sealant.

On a reversible clip?!

I know it's against the law to not hire someone merely because he or she worships the Devil, but you don't have to let them practice their demon worship on the reversible clips.

:grumpy:

In the future, whether you think ther's loctite on there or not, a careful application of heat to the screw will often loosen up one that seems jammed, and if there is loctite orsomething similar, will generally loosen this up too.

Or such has been my experience.
