Seems like a great price for S30V! Does the stainless version of the ATR indeed come with this steel. The write up description on the Spyderco web site says so but the picture of the blade says VG10 and it says VG10 in the chart as well.

So which is it?

unfortunately, no. the ATR SS is indeed VG-10 and not S30V. the description on the Spyderco page seems to be copied from the Ti version.

abe m.

Drats! The Rat Trap looks good as does the Ritter. I like Spyderco though and they are easy to find in Canada at an excellent price.

I am not completely sold on the ATR desin but S30V would have swung the jury.

Thanks

Where in Canada can you find Spydercos at a good price?

There are lots of good choices in S30V for the same price as the SS ATR. Military, paramilitary, chinook II, Manix, etc.

the fact that the SS-version has VG10 is actually a PLUS over the Ti-version with its rockhard-brittle S30V-steel. i think nowadays people get carried away too much about what steel is on the knife. don't forget that VG10 already IS quite a high-tech steel. who needsCPM's anyway.

c'mon?!

LeBaron's. Not the best selection or customer service, but pretty good prices. Their 2005 selection includes the SS ATR and the Manix. Still no Paramillie though...

Yup LeBarons has the prices though they can be dinks to deal with.

Denix: The Manix is not in their catalogue do they carry them and if so what kind of price?

Let me begin by saying I am no newcomer to the world of folding knives. I own many Benchmades, Bokers, Buck, Buck Strider, and especially Spydercos, about the only high-end folder I have not encounter YET is the sebenze. I have the ATR Ti model and think it is the best folder ever made. The knife allows lightening fast opening via the frame-compression lock and also locks so strong it could almost sub for a fixed blade. The knife is awesome. However let me state I would not hesitate for one moment to buy a SS ATR, SS would only make the handles and knife stronger (although a bit heavier) and VG-10 is certainly no slouch in fact it is my favorite blade steel. I have a Military and many of the other models you are considering, go ahead get the SS ATR you won't be disappointed. The Design is a winner, Hey Spyderco any chance of getting a baby SS ATR with a 2.8 in blade if that knife were produced not only would I retire my delica I'd forget about trying to get a small sebenza ;)

ATRs rock

Oh yeah, one more thing the ATR is the only model mentioned in this post with the Cobra Hood. It was my first knife with this feature which I though was a joke until I tried it. Although I don't want to see it employed on ever Spyderco design it is fantastic on the ATR design :D

I have several S30V knives and had never had a problem with the steel being brittle.

the avaerage user will never know the diff between S30V/154CM/ATS34/VG10/etc, i do like the better stuff though myself..........now when ya get to AUS6 now thats another story, though really its ok for std use also imho.
