This looks like a great knife. When will production start? Will it be at dealers this spring? Are the specs finalized?
As you can tell I am pretty excited!
Thanks!

HI K man. We're pretty close. Still working out some details. We're shooting for late summer production. The samples that we showed at SHOT Show were IMO one of the finest, if not THE finest knife in the show. Ti scales, integral compression lock. Simple, strong and elegant. I'll think about you while I carry the protos.

If you have an extra proto or two lying around feel free to send me one. I promise I'll think about K-man too. ;)

In all seriousness the ATR was the finest finest knife at the show. I was very, very impressed. I have relly wanted one since I saw the prototypes. I am also very excited to hear about S30V being the blade steel. This will be a very high performance knife.

Thanks Sal, that really makes me feel better! LOL!
I really like this model because I think it reflects the elegance of some of the early steel-handled models. It also shows the evolution that Spyderco has made with locks, steel, and apperance. I can't wait to get one!

Sorry Blades. I never mean to be mean.

Thanx for the kind words, You can bet I'll be pushing manufacture for as early as possible. It is a very difficult knife to build despite it's "simple" appearance and concepts. Very close tolerances on titanium offer challenges. I'm sure Chris Reeve has been dealing with these challenges for years.

Man, I want one of these suckers pretty badly, been saving up too, now its just the wait....

Are there going to be two models of the ATR?
I remember hearing that there would be a limited run of the titanium handled ATRs featuring the integra lock (I think this is what the frame compression lock is called.) After that, steel handled ATRs with just the regular compression lock would be produced.
Does anyone know what is going to happen with this model?
Thanks!

Hi K-man,

Both versions of ATR will be produced simultaneously. The difference is that the titanium ATR will have a much higher price than the steel one, so it will be produced in smaller or less frequent runs.

Thanks for the info. Carlos!
The ti. handled ATRs sound really cool. I bet that a few years down the road they will be Rare like the aluminum handled police models. It would be really cool if there was something like a "25 years of innovation" etch. That would really make it special!

Hi K-man,

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you on the etch.

It reminds me on those knives that have "original bowie" etched to the blade.

A product doesn't get better if you wirte the word better on it.

just my opinion.

Greetings

Red- I agree that the product does not get better because of an etch, but it does make it more special and unique. An etch like "25 years of innovation" would show Spyderco's influence on the folding knife industry and how far they have come. I bet anyone here would much rather have a "PIG- Pride, Integrity, & Guts" etched Police model rather than a regular Police model. Why? Well, everyone knows that it will not cut better, hold and edge longer, or feel better in the hand than the regular Police model. It is just a little bit more special than the regular model :)

Fogive my ignorance, but what exactly is this knife? I gather that it is an all metal framelock, but am curious to know more. Are there any pics availible? Thanks.

Maybe it's just the pictures but it looks like another 1/4" could be added the the blade and it would still be enclosed in the handle. I like a folder with as much blade length as the handle allows.

Shootist16, you've handled the proto (lucky bastid ;) ). How did the blade to handle ratio seem to you?

I don't think the ratio was all that bad. It looks worse in the pics but believe that has to do with the angle of the pics. One thing I remember for sure is how great the knife felt great in the hands.
