Hi,
Found a 1995 ATS34 Large Sebenza.
I know they come in S30V now so is this a less desirable steel than BG42 and S30V ?

Any thoughts on the edge quality compared to the newer models ?

Thanks,
KCkc

Quite a few people desire the older Sebbies !

I like all three blade steels, but prefer ATS-34 for ease of sharpening.

The trick for maintaining BG-42 and S30V is not to let the edge become dull. If it does, in my experience, it's a long process (OK. . .PITA) to get it back to the typical CRK sharpness ! I haven't had that problem with ATS-34 and edge retention has been excellent. Of course, that depends on a number of factors (i.e., what's being cut, etc.).

Is the knife an old style? The early models in the new style also used ATS-34 until they ran through the blade stock.

I have a few of the old style models with nice thin edges on ATS-34 blades, terrific slicers, holds an edge very well.

I am not sure since I cannot tell old style from the new.
It looks like a 2006 Large Classic Sebenza.

DO you have a photo of old and new style ?
Thanks.

A friend of mine that introduced me to Sebs has a model from 1995ish and it's ATS-34. It's still kicking and he uses it almost everyday. ATS-34 is one of my favorite steels and a classic in my opinion. His is a classic model.

i got one that got mayoed and it is in the edc rotation. what can i say, it's a classic, does not have the cut out for the pocket clip (a big plus for me) and holds an edge. i can vouch for what recoil said about taking a polish and what stjames said about the edge...it is a fantastic slicer.

you can't go wrong with a sebbie in that blade material

The classic is based on the old style. Great knives, I would not hesitate to pick it up. Lots of fans, as you can see.
