For all you guys in the know, have you ever seen an ats-34 sebenza that was stonewashed. Just received the bottom one today and was thinking maybe it's a BG-42. No box or documents were provided, it was sold to me as ats-34. The top one is polished, the middle is bead blasted which is rare but the bottom one gives me the impression that it's BG-42. Is it possible that this is a BG-42 Blade? Has anyone who has owned an original Sebenza seen this type of finish? The blade profile seems to match but do you guys think there's been a blade swap? Did CRK ever stonewash any ats-34 blades? Any insight would be appreciated. Monday I make the call to CRK and hopefully I can figure this out.

i was just informed that there is no such thing as a BG-42 blade on the Original. That what I have in my possession is the three different finishes applied to the Original Sebenza ATS-34, most were polished at first but then Mr. Reeves started experimenting with blade finishes to see which one is best. Ultimately, the stonewashed finish was chosen because as Anne confirmed the bead-blasted finish was prone to rust and the polished finish would show every little scratch so stonewashed was selected as the best all around compromise. So what I basically have are the three finishes applied to ats-34 blade, will confirm this on Monday.

Those early polished blades are really nice till you use them and scratch them up. I wonder how they put such a high polish on them? Nice comparison and history on the three type of finishes.

That's a nice set!

Are the flats polished on the stonewashed one?

I've only seen the polished and beadblasted versions. Never a stonewashed. My favorite of the three.

Very interesting post. Your comparison photos vividly show how different blade finishes can dramatically change the overall appearance of the same knife. I never paid much attention to that before, other than obvious Damascus blade differences. But, my eyes don't lie and each of those knives have a very distinctively different appearance. Thanks for sharing.

The flats are polished, now that must of taken a few extra steps to produce. It's awesome to see all three in the same place, really gives you a sense of went on back in the day.
