ATS55 and AUS8A Steel

Yes, on both questions.
As there are some 10600 Members of the forums, you may get approximately 11'000 different opinions on which is better and why and what for.
Then there are HRH Moderators who KNOW.

My $.02.

ATS-55 is superior.

And once the heat treat was optimized, it turned out to be much better than expected.
 
I will second that, at least for edge holding. ATS-55 has been a bit rust happy for me, more like D2 steel.

Still I prefer ATS-55 over Aus-8 every time.

The ATS55 should hold an edge longer. The AUS-8 is a step up from 420 alloys for edge holding and takes an exceptionally sharp edge. The AUS-8 makes a better razor. The ATS55 probably makes a better knife.
