[Att: Sal] Idea: Lanyard wire hole

Hi Sal and others

On a recent thread you all can read, how happy I am with my new DKPK. Furthermore I can read in another thread how happy people are with the wire clips.

My only problem with my UK/DK Pen Knife is the missing lanyard hole. So I came up with an idea on how to make one. It's not rocket science or anything, but I think it came out so elegant, simple, and cost effective, that I would share it with you all.
It should work fine with any of the Spyderco knives, that originally comes with a wire clip - especially the Native, or the upcoming Caly3, or even the Dodo.

Since the wire clips, has meant compromizing with the lanyard hole, Spyderco could maybe consider to make the "lanyard wire hole", a standard add-on in the future? I'm guessing this wouldn't be very costly...

The "lanyard wire hole" - should off course be of the same steel wire as the pocket clip.
The idea is to mount it on the opposite side of the pocket clip. That way, people could easily remove it if they didn't want it. The handle is already prepared for this because of the possibility to reverse the pocket clip (left handed).

Just kidding Mr. Turnip.
It's 2 am here.
You may also want to try posting your questions at the spyderco forum at spyderco.com. He frequents that forum often as well of course. By the way. Welcome to bladeforums.

I will :)

I didn't expect a response now - I'm aware of the time difference :)
I'm actually going to Florida on thursday, and I'm not locking forward to the jet lag :o

Glad you appreciate the joke. Just poking you around. Can you take a picture of the knife now and post it? I or someone else may be able to give you some more good advice to your suggestion. It is a good suggestion though.

Sure thing - it's basicly a UK Pen Knife with a narrower Spyderhole :)

Here are the pictures from my recent thread:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=398467

But I can easily make my own solution - the idea of this post, was to make Spyderco consider it as a standard add-on in the future :)

I see what you mean. Maybe you can find someone to drill you a hole. We have many members here who could do the job as well as if it were to come from the factory in that manner. I don't know if there is such a person you know of there though. I am thinking if there is such a way to tie the lanyard so that it doesn't slip down the clip.

True true - but my solution is way more elegant - plus I don't have to drill a hole is my new knife.
By tieing the lanyard to the pocket clip, I would take up some space in the bend, making it sit higher when clipped it the pocket.

Either way, I'm going to make my "lanyard wire hole" - my post was just a suggestion to Spyderco, to maybe make it a future standard add-on :D

But thank you very much - for offering your help - I appriciate it :)

New knife? Gotcha. I know exactly what you are talking about. If you can make one, that is even better. Don't forget the pics!:D

Very slick solution. I generally dislike laynard holes, so I very much like the idea of a removable laynard attachment.

Hi Mr Turnip

I had a similar idea about using wire but i couldn't find any wire thin enough to fit into the slots.

If you find some you will have to let us know

good luck making one and have a nice holiday!

Interesting idea Mr. Turnip!

You might try a hobby shop that sells R/C model airplane supplies. They generally carry a good variety of sizes, as it's used quite a bit to make landing gear.

Very great solution! It should please both fans of the lanyard hole, and those who would prefer to do without it. You should try to make up some custom pieces!

Hi Mr. Turnip.

Interesting concept.

Perhaps you could make one and give it a try?

We do have models coming down the pike that use the UKPK deep pocket wire clip and no lanyard hole (Caly 3, Urban).
