When attaching a thin butt cap out of brass, will soldering a nut with
silver solder and threading it on the tang hold up, and if its not a threaded tang will soldering a flat headed screw to the brass and epoxing it into a hole drilled into the handle end hold up.I use nothing but 1/2" brass drilled and tapped for pommels now but would like to use thinner, but I don't want any problems down the road.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Bill

Bill, I dont see any come back trouble if you silver solder a bolt on the thin brass butt plate. Be sure to flare out the end of the bolt that is in the epoxy so it wont unsrew if somebody trys someday. I have done it several times. I use an electric hot plate to heat the butt plate and screw, It works good.

I think you are on the right track,

I like to drill a hole in the brass then slide the tang through and mushroom out the steel on the butt end, they can't come off.

I have used a solid brass cabinet nob as a pummel for a dager, thread the end of the tang, twist it on and then mate it to the handle. that worked good also.

in 1/4,or 3/16 inch brass I don't understand why you are silver soldering a nut into it. It seams less work to stop drill and tap it. but both should work, but you'll need a bottom tap.

if you don't mind the steel seen on the butt. pien the end of the threaded tang round on the bottom of the butt plate and leave it as decoration.no one's going to twist the plate off

brass can also be atached with a wood screw counter sink them so that the part of the head that the screw driver mates to is left proud. and then file it off(a dab of epoxy or super glue when you put it in and it's not coming out).

I hope this is helpful EE
