Attaching aluminum to steel?

Is there a solid way to do this aside from pinning it?

I'm making a bayonet for a friend, and I want to put a full finger guard across it (ala trench knife style). Since it's going to be afixed on the end of a rifle, I'd like to use aluminum to keep the weight down if possible.

Wade,
We have a discount steel store in downtown Minneapolis that carries aluminum in various barstock, and so forth. Its considered "scrap"
and they sell it by the pound. It goes for 50 cents a pound. Bought lots of steel tubing for my NWG there. Great deal IMO.

eutectic has a soft solder that they claim will solder aluminum to steel. I have never tried it and have no Idea where to get it.

if your able to fit it together with a mechanical lock , use jb weld youd have to machine it apart id think after it had a day to set up?

Thanks guys!

I think I have somewhat of a game plan now. I put up some pics when I finish it, if it all works out. :)

you can cast it on... (aluminum melts at a little less then 1200ºF) Also you could make it so the aluminum is a thousandth or 2 over sized, and the the place it's getting fixed to is a thousandth or 2 undersize. heat up the undersized part and freeze the oversized. put them together and let them come to room temp. It wont budge!

Anyone know where to get aluminum bar stock in small qty.?

I think most hardware stores have it somewhere near the mild steel stock. I just bought a 1/2" bar the other day from Ace Hardware. Lowes and Home Depot have it too.

Try your locally owned smalll store first! :D
