Attaching Firesteel To Your Sheath

I am interested in how others are attaching their firesteels to their knife sheaths. Specifically:

- DIY mods to sheaths is what I am most interested in
- Commercial sheaths (kydex) that have firesteel option secondarily

Any pics and/or directions are greatly appreciated.

Example pic (not mine) of what I'd love to hear how to do:

With chicago screws and nylon webbing, you can put a firesteel holder on anything with holes in it.

Just size it to the firesteel.

The Warrior also used cable clamps from the hardware store to make a firesteel loop on a sheath before:

The top picture was a home made fire steel holder made from kydex and screwed under the TDI clip.
Yep, that one's mine.
I'll take a better picture of it tomorrow that shows what I did.

Derek and Shadow, great ideas - Thanks! I had not thought of using nylon strapping and Chicago screws. I'll try out some of these on my bigger knives.

Acer, Look forward to seeing since i have a TDI clip on my BK14 and do want to add a firesteel. Really like how your setup looks on the same sheath/clip.

Charlie, Using the spine is the way to go. Having a coating on the blade (like most all the BKT knives) makes it harder to throw a spark, so you can strip the whole blade or just file away the coating on the striking area. Also helps to make the spine square/sharp to throw a better spark shower. I have also used the choil on some larger knives. I saw that Survive Knives now has a firesteel notch on the spine as an option. Supposed to give larger firesteel/spine contact area.

One of our members, Godspeed, does kydex sheaths with optional fire steel attachments for any of the commercially available firesteel brands.

This worked ok for my BK2. Just use a legth of shock cord, which I allowed me to attach it to a pack and provide retention for the fire steel. I also used a little paracord loop and a spring clip to make it easy to take it off the sheath and serve as a secondary "safety" to keep it in place.

Alternately, Godspeed, 710, and Azwelke can all make you something to your liking. Take this Godspeed rig, for instance. The firesteel rode inside of the pocuh.

Here's the pictures of the stock sheath/TDI clip with kydex firesteel holder as promised.

I have my 14 in it now.

It's held between the TDI clip, and sheath with a small screw from the other side.

And here's how I've been carrying my 11 now.(picture upside down)

Custom kydex carried horizontally on my belt in front with a tek lok, and cable clamps for the fire steel.
That's the same 11 pictured in the top picture, but the wooden scales were destroyed by a car(or truck) running my knife over when I lost it in a parking lot.
I had it hanging from my neck rather than clipped to my pocket, and unfortunately the sheath didn't have enough retention.
No more carrying on the neck for me.:(
