Attaching gear

Obviously from time to time it is desirable to attach some piece of gear to other gear. You may wish to attach a knife or pouch to your pack or vest. My question is simple what method do you prefer & why. I am getting a new EDC bag for Christmas & would like to attach several items to it. Maxpedition carries the TacTie system, but what about alice clips or any other method.

Alice clips have worked fine for me, use the TacTie's too. But my gear tends to stay in place, I don't shift it from bag to bag, or reorganize very often. Half the time I reinforce the attachment with a ziptie.

Assuming you have a MOLLE compatible pack and pouch, the TacTies work pretty well. I also like the Tactical Tailor MALICE clips. Any kind of cordage will also work just fine in a pinch.

Malice clips or Tac Ties seem to be about equally popular. About the slickest (no pun intended) system I have seen is the 5.11 Slick Stick system where the attachments are like a normal molle weave and snap system, but the sticks are rigid and stay attached to the gear. It would be cool to see more using that approach.

I use a lot of MOLLE pouches -- real ones with the straps sewn on. Otherwise I use Tac-Ties as they are better, IMO than MALICE clips.

ALICE clips I really don't like, I've always found them prone to coming loose.

Nobody really LIKES alice clips, especially those of us that HAD to use them in the service and got bit by them. If you are moving gear around on your bag a lot, then alice clips arent the best choice.

If you're doing anything ALICE clips aren't the best choice, IMO. I always used the good (black) zip ties and 550 cord run through the clips channels on my ALICE gear.

Plus, the spacing doesn't work to use them on MOLLE-based PALs webbing.

Thanks for the feed back guys. I had to deal with the alice clips in the mil. as well. Most of the gear I am attaching can be done with the tac ties. However I would like to have one pouch removable if I need to ditch the bag for some reason. I was considering alice clips for this situation.

I really like the MALICE clips or the MOLLE locks that come with RAT knives.

MALICE clips are not friendly for fast reconfiguration, but I've never had one come loose.

I always used the tac-ties or malice clips and have no issues with either. I wasn't much of a fan of the alice clips in the Corps but they should work also.

I hate stuff hanging off my daypack or backpack, so I tend to keep everything inside. There's less to catch on bush and no stuff banging around making unnecessary noise that way. I do keep a sheathed blade on my belt or in a convenient pocket for ready access.

As I mentioned this will be an EDC bag. I was looking at attaching a small pouch for a fixed blade knife. I also would like to attach a pouch for a fak. The reason I want seperate pouches for these is so I don't have to dig for them when I need them. I do carry a large folder in my pocket along with some other small gear but like to keep my belt line clear except for my sidearm.

I personally fins Tac Ties easy to release, so they'd be my choice for a quick detach as well.

ALICE clips had a bad habit of auto-ejecting on me.

Thanks for the heads up on the Tac Ties. I have never used them & was not sure how they would work.
