hey guys. I am buying a busse satin jack soon hopefully, but i would like to know what i am looking at to get these scales off and then put them back on with the rivets that Busse uses. Would i have to buy new rivets to put back together, and if so where can i buy silver ones? Also, how to i get them off? thanks, can't wait to start another mod to my knives. Any advice will help.

I want to know how to both take the scales off and replace them. the guy i am buying one from has a broken scale on one side, and i want to change them anyway. I need to know how to put back on. Do i need a rivet gun of some sort and what kind? where can i find this if that is what i need? thanks

cool, but where could i get the parts/equipment for doing it the way Busse company does it? thanks again for the help

There is no rivet gun. Attaching knife handles is a little more difficult than that.
Send it back to the manufacturer.

Normally the scales on a knife are epoxied. Do some research and you will find differing opinions on pins or other mechanisms.

With the pins they simply pass through the scales and tang and are ground to shape as you shape the scales.

There are also corby bolts that you bolt in. The scales are recessed or counterbored for the bolts and they are again ground to shape with the scales.

On some knives the scales are shaped and then simply bolted on.

You should be able to see some of your options here:

Look at the hidden bolt fasteners.

Post a picture of the knife, and I'll explain how the scales are attached.

I don't have a pic but it is a Busse Satin Jack. same as most busse handles. I have seen a vid where someone attaches their own kind of rivets with a vice and some tubing and screws, but was wondering if there is a better way of doing it without sending back to the company. This is something I want to do myself. I am well aware how to take off and replace a handle with corbys, pins, etc. but i don't know about the rivets. never did it before anyway. I want to try my hand at this WithOUT sending back to busse if i can. hope this clears it up. thanks again

I don't have a Busse but from the pictures I have seen it doesn't look like a rivet. It looks to me like the hole the fastener goes through has been countersunk and then a piece of tubing has been flared to meet the handle material.

From Busse Acronyms:
TUBE - the current handle fastener - a tube of metal flared under extremely high pressure.

Busse Combat site:
Alloy Handle Fasteners
Our handles are attached using solid, one piece handle fasteners. We are proud to feature a heavy walled, double flanged compression fitting that greatly reduces blade vibration transfer to the handle. Compressed with over 10,000 lbs. of pressure these fasteners ensure that your handle will remain intact and solid for several generations and ensures that handles will never become loose or experience any type of attachment failure.
