Attaching Knife/Sheath to Pack Strap

Hey guys,

Again, in lieu of my Appalachian Trail trip, I was wondering if anyone has a good method for attaching a kydex sheath to a back pack strap?

I'm going to have a kydex sheath made, so I'm wondering what the style of the sheath should be. Should I have a MOLLE (I think this is the term) style with brackets running down both sides?

Any pictures of sheaths, and sheaths attached to pack straps would be very appreciated.

NOTE: one of the companies I spoke to suggested using a TEK-LOK to attach it to the strap. In my opinion, this will not work, as the strap is too thick, and the TEK-LOK will dig into my shoulder/too bulky. I am thinking some sort of velcro "wrap" attachment.

If the sheath is vertical, will it attach to a horizontal or a vertical strap?
How wide is the strap?
Molle attachements might work. The ones made by Blade-Tech, offered by Rat Cutlery might be worth looking at. They are quite versatile.
a small teklok might be worth looking at too. It's not so difficult to make a thick leather, rubber (or whatever) washer inside the lok to tighten things up..

I've attached a couple of different knives to pack straps. The best way I've found was a kydex sheath that had the eyelets on both sides. Then I laced some small diameter bungie cord back and forth through the eyelets and around the strap. Pull it tight when you do it, go back through an eyelet and tie a knot in the cord to end it. I tried a couple of different patterns before I found one that looked good and held secure. It ended up looking kind of like a crossing pattern in the front, like shoelaces. Just the elastic stretched tight around the strap keeps it in place. It might not sound like it, but it holds very well.

You can get small diameter bungie cord at REI (Maxpedition and other pack makers use the small bungie and cord locks for pack compression). It's cheap enough to give a try.
