Have been a Gold Member for many years.

Photobucket continues, especially last two days, to be an utter pain and not value for money

Have asked this before, but never had a result - please can someone explain why I cannot post pics straight into my posts unless they are very small. The biggest I can manage without banner coming up saying file size too large, is 400px wide............and yet I see members with lower subs levels than I posting good quality pics that utterly fill my desktop screen.

Any assistance gratefully appreciated :)

People use other hosts like imgur and then put them in the IMG tags to get nice pictures on the forum

IMO, Imgur sucks and is going the way of PB. Betcha it's not free for too much longer either.

At least if I upload my pics directly to the forum (albeit at reduced resolution), I should not be in danger of them going away. I'm SO done with online image hosting.

There is a total data limit to posting pictures that way, though.

Supposedly. I recall that post, but I don't think it's actually true. I post a good number of photos (surely I've posted over 100 since that thread over a year ago), and I have never had an issue with this purported 50MB quota. There may be a quota on individual "galleries", but that does not seem to be the case when attaching photos directly into threads.

And PS, the reason I was having issues posting pics back when that thread was active, was due to Spark lowering the file size limit from 1MB to 500kb, and I did not yet know that.

Shhh...don't say that too loud;)

That could be,or maybe something's messed up with the counting. Going to your profile, it only shows two "media uploaded".

Looking at the top charts, there are at least five people with over 100 photos, though I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean they're over 50mb

@Spark mentioned in a thread on C&HK forum that the 'Next upgrade' will have a Xenforo add-in which will downsize large photos to format friendly sizing.

We can use this sooner than later! I agree about the 3rd party photo hosting limits and future potential costs/fails.

Christmas is coming, so is NEW YEAR 2020! :)

PLEASE, what does this take to enable?

Man, that would be really nice Coop! It's definitely annoying to resize, especially when cameras just keep getting better, and reducing to 500k kills the resolution. Looking forward to this change! :fingers crossed:

Is the downsizing not happening already?

If I download a pic from the internet to upload here, it has to be under 500KB otherwise it wont work.

Pictures that I take from my phone and post have to be under 2MB otherwise they wont upload.

Here's why I say that downsizing might be happening already. My last photo I took and uploaded in the EDC thread was 1.69MB. (Which I had to edit down from 2.5MB)
I went to the EDC thread today and downloaded that same pic to my phone and the size now shows as 245.76KB.

I'll take some screenshots to show you what I mean. I just hope they're the right size. :p

This is the original picture taken from my phone that was too big to upload.

This is the pic I edited to a smaller size that did upload to the EDC thread.

Here's the same pic above that I downloaded from the EDC thread.

Bonus info!
The size of the screenshots are 556KB, 522KB, and 455KB respectively.

Hmmm. How you got a 1.69mb photo to upload is notable. I rarely use the BF software to post, and I THOUGHT that it had to be resized under 500kb to post.

Yes, that's certainly a reduction, and it falls SO far under the original filesize, yet still looks good.

Color me confused. Thank you for doing this.

Tried to upload this photo, but it says it's too big.......yet, it is only 752 x 877 pixels

.....and here's the file info saying it's only 213Kb:

And yet, if I try upload the image itself, I get this:

If I'm being a numpty, please tell me...........but there's a flaw somewhere..!

Aha.....!!

Just changed it on the dimensions here, to reduced dimensions:

...........and got this, which is an acceptable pic to post:

Thank you B benchwarmer380 for making me think about it :thumbsup::thumbsup:
