I am planning my first knife and have obtained a piece of 0-1 to use. I would like to attach the scales using SS bolts and am not real sure how to go about attaching the collar to the handle to thread the bolts into. I was sure you guys could help with this. Thanks

Thanks Mike. I have been lurking around hear for a while and thought it was about time I joined. Alot of good information on this forum. I was thinking that with the bolts you could remove the handles if you wanted to, but it doesn't look like many people are doing this. Is their really no need to ever remove the handles? I was thinking along the lines of getting rust on the metal under the scales, or does the epoxy keep this from happening?

Epoxy would be a very effective seal.
Some makers use screws to attach handles, this is done more with folders, but can be done with fixed blades. Just not much reason to do it.
The screw heads on the bolts in the links, are usually ground off in the process of finishing, and leave a smooth(hopefully)finish.

Thanks for the help that anwsers my question. I will try to post a pic when it is done. thanks again

There are threaded inserts that can be set into the handle or you can simply drill and tap the handle tang itself before heat treating (two holes per scale)
