To everyone who is having attachment issues:
Please go to the technical support forum and read some of the threads related to this issue. And DONT start deleting photos yet. Spark is trying to find a work around to let us keep the photos that are there. However, you will need to start using an image hosting site to post new photos, if you are over your limit. Gold members are allowed 500, platinum members are allowed 1,000. The forum is running out of server space and we are all over our limits because Spark configured the server wrong, I think, when he originally set it up so that we could post directly from our computers or phones.
Please read the threads, Spark explains all of this in at least a couple of them.
Sorry mods, I know this is a technical post in the traditional forum, but, I think it is necessary, there is a lot of confusion expressed in many other threads.

too late. I've put over 2k and counting) in the trash as of today.
No biggie, nun of my posts were in important for the ages threads.
No one gives a hoot what knives were in my pocket, or what Knives I got last month - let alone in 2020.
Cleared all but a couple (that I had the option to. Them n closed threasds I stuck with, at least for now) from Friday last to sometime in 2021.
Going to get rid of the '21 pictures. S'not like anyone is going to see those long dead and forgotten threads, or go 1,000 or more pages back in the carry thread to see what knives I or anyone else had in November or warmer, 2021

I don't know... I think you'd be surprised.

Before I began regularly participating on bladeforums, I'd frequently find myself here after searching Google for pictures of one knife or another. It was especially uplifting when the pics were still intact, and especially depressing when I'd thought I had struck knife-pic gold, only to discover a broken link. 😭

Imagine if archeologists uncovered the ancient Roman equivalent of bladeforums, detailing what tools people used in their daily lives on an individual and day-by-day basis. They'd weep tears of joy. Colleges around the world would be buying absorbent material en masse. There would be drownings on dry land!

As I understand it this attachment issue has no effect on member using an image hosting site. 🤔 Is that the actual case?

If so - PLEASE ELUCIDATE ME - How is using an image hosting site less burdensome to BF than my processing all my photos through a photo program and reducing the original data? Does IMGUR compress so much more than I can?

AND - even with the compression factor - how is it that the 500 limit (Gold Members) would be different for me than someone who using a hosting site? They are still posting images on BF as I am. Are those images really not here?

Thank you for any insights.

EDIT - Since posting my wife has explained that the IMGUR photos are in "THE CLOUD" so not in BF storage. Whatever "THE CLOUD" is... 🤔 ;)

So buy more server space ffs what do we pay a membership for?

Does anyone know why some attachments can’t be deleted? Just finished deleting all of mine except for 14 that didn’t have the trash tag next to them. Yes, it was a pain going back to 2017. 😡

I deleted almost 1,000 pics today 🤷💀and a few from the wine and cheese experience I had couldn’t be deleted. Go figure. Of all places that stupid place.

If the thread is closed for some reason. There was one from "Show us what you are carrying July 4th" from several years ago, where (for obvious reasons) the thread was eventually closed, but any attachments can no longer be deleted because you are essentially editing a closed thread.

Thanks John that makes sense!

I fear this is getting into tech support category, but I can't just not try to help...

Using an image hosting site is less burdensome to BF because the files are not stored on BFs servers, which have limited space.

They truly are not "here". All the images I post are with imgur or imgbb. If either of those sites go out of business, all my images here will disappear.

I heard that attachments in a locked thread cannot be deleted. I'm sure the mods are working on a solution to this.

It's truly sad to see people deleting their images and/or moving to third party hosting sites. The historical significance of these forums is immense. Limited storage space with no option to pay for more is no good. Neither are third party sites as they could go out of business at any time.

Thank you for answering my questions. As to this point ^ I did use PhotoBucket for a while until they went to fee based. If I pay fee for hosting photos I would rather simply pay more to BF. There will be lots of history deleted here and fewer shares that's for sure. BF will not be the same.

To be honest I had never looked at my attachments on my profile page until this issue arose. Can’t say I’ll miss them. But I will definitely watch my count in the future.
