As some of you have already heard I am starting a new venture based on nothing but custom knife collaborations. We will officially launch full scale at the Shot Show in 2003. Those who were at the Blade Show may have already seen some of our designs :)

Right now the project is called Dragon Forge.

We are looking for a few good designs!

Time to let the cat out of the bag.

Many of you have wondered where I have been and what I have been up to since selling BladeForums and 1SKS. I am still here and kicking and have some great news.

I have been working on a project behind the scenes for over a year now. It will be a new company with an old name but with great new ideas. We lanched a preview at the Blade Show and those who came by and saw the quality we are able to produce were greatly impressed. When we told the price point we are aiming at several just could not beleive it.

Our first project was the Jimmy Lile Regular #7.

This knife retails for $29.99! (not a typo)

Everyone is familiar with custom collaborations by now. Well the new company will be 100% based on the collaboration idea but with a twist, several actually, and you can even be a part of it.

Right now I have working relationships with several manufacturers. Some in the US and several more overseas. You have already seen the quality we can produce. In fact at the Blade Show I had the knife you see pictured above on the Lile table and several people mistaked it for the real thing. The quality is that good. Those of you who were at the show know what I am talking about. We can produce a quality knife at a price point that so far has never been acheived.

What if a company could take designs from custom knife makers (or anyone for that matter) and produce them at a price that anyone could afford? Meaning that virtually every knife would be below $100 and most at or below $50.
What if we could do that and maintain high quality?
What if we could offer the custom knife maker or designer benefits that are beyond anything being done right now? Like retirement and insurance and maybe more. Every knife maker will get the industry standard 5% but I am working on getting more.

What about getting more exposure! Well each knife shipped will have a brochure with your information in it! Pointing customers to you or your website if they want the "REAL" thing! Think of how many people, maybe yourself included, started collecting knives buying the sub $50 knives? Now when someone buys one of our knives they will be able to buy the real thing down the road. Ask any custom maker out there how many customers bought the collaboration knife before they bought the "REAL" thing. You will be supprised at how many have.

Well now all the above is true and the company will be called Dragon Forge for now (we may chage the name).

Here is what we are looking for.
Ideally we want something that is different but not too far out there. Different lock designs, shapes or anything that is not the norm is always welcome. We can build nearly anything so all categories are being looked at from throwing knives to swords to autos and everywhere in between.

So let's see those ideas!

Send all emails to dragonforge@wowinc.com
My email box may fill up so if you do not get a automated reply, please send again in a day or so.

Thanks for listening and good luck!

I will be in LA till Thursday.

If you call 1-800-969-7771 I will call you back and talk to you personally when I return.

Mike,

Best of luck with the new venture! I saw the Dragon Forge Jimmy Lile #7 at the Blade Show. It's an awesome knife for under 30 bucks!!!

Moved from Custom Forum (variety of reasons).

That Lile is a beauty for that kind of money. What materials are used?

It is great that another company is starting up that will offer people high quality alternatives to the ripoff knives that people are now purchasing because of price. Hard to believe that knife is only $30.00.

Keith, the blade material is 420J2 and the handle material is pakkawood. With that, the price becomes more believable.

Guys, I sat down and looked over some of the prototypes today including the Lile. I am floored. The amount of quality that is in these blades combined with the price point is unreal.

Several times I asked Mike if he was kidding (re: price point), I truely thought he was. Nope, he is talking about prices that CAN NOT be beaten. No Joke!

This project is going to really stir things up. All in a good way!

Great job Mike, I am impressed.

Well I kind of figured that to reach those kinds of price points that 420 was going to have to be used. At least the Pakkawood is not that multi-colored stuff you see on so many knives.

Edited to add:

I can not seem to find the Lile knife on the WOW Inc./Dragon Forge website. Am I not looking in the right place?

Mike
I'm not trying to be funny but you said over seas
these aren't going to be coming out of a
swett shop are they?:(

The knives will be made either in China, Taiwan or other countries, including here.

Don't knock 420 guys. Buck uses 425 in most of there knives. The difference is all in how the blade is made and treated.

By this time next year you will hopefully be seeing a full line.

I am sending Rob Simonich his prototype today. Let him chime in after he sees his.
