Knife Rights Leading Ivory Ban Knife Community Coalition Letter Effort
Knife Organizations are Encouraged to Sign onto Letter Opposing Administration's Ivory Ban

On April 4, 2014, a coalition letter was sent to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Daniel Ashe from 31 organizations representing a wide variety of impacted communities opposed to this ban. The purpose of this letter was to put the Administration, the Fish and Wildlife Service and the House Appropriations Committee, as well as Members of Congress, on notice that this ivory ban will adversely affect a large number of Americans. Knife Rights was honored to be joined on the letter by the Custom Knife Collectors Association, the National Knife Collectors Association, the Professional Knifemakers Association and The Knifemakers' Guild, as well as the industry's American Knife & Tool Institute. You can read this letter here: http://www.kniferights.org/Ivory_Coalition_Letter_4.4.14.pdf

The next step in our strategy to oppose the Administration's ivory ban is for each of the various impacted communities to present U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service with their own letter, which can be more specific. Knife Rights, as a founding member of the coalition opposing the ivory ban, has drafted a knife-centric letter for the many knife community organizations and companies to sign onto.

Time is not on our side. This endorsement MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN APRIL 14, 2014.

Knife Related Organizations that are interested in signing onto this letter opposing the Administrations' Ivory ban can find more information at:

I will never buy your knives, if you support ivory, then you support massive slaughter of animals for it, it's disgusting:barf:

The ivory that is legal in the U.S. Is decades old. Outlawing things like 100+ year old scrimshaw, and destroying large quantities of old ivory isn't saving elephants from poachers.

Apparently you missed the part where we support all practical means to end poaching in the field and stopping the illegal trade in ivory. Even the FWS has previously said illegal trade in ivory is not a problem in the U.S. Unfortunately, this U.S. ban on trade in heretofore legal pre-ban ivory not only will have no positive effect on poaching and the illegal ivory trade, many experts believe this ban may serve to increase black market ivory trade and end up increasing poaching, the exact opposite of the desired outcome.

You might want to read up on this issue before assuming we "support massive slaughter of animals":

That is not only sad but so far from the truth, did you , can you, would you, should you, could you please stop blasting and read the letter sent to US FISH AND WILDLIFE... Ignorance is understood, but stupidity is what allowed the US Govt. to currently stockpile the largest share of Pre Ban Ivory in the world, Over 6 million lbs est, by The Agency itself. If they released that Ivory alone, not a single animal would be killed. Plus over 600,000 lbs of Ivory hits to ground and oceans yearly by natural death. Ivory comes from nearly 10 sources/animals know.

Your statement does nothing to generate rev. to save animals, what was the amount of money you sent to a relief agency last year or the year before ?? I do not make knives, buy ivory knife or own elephants, put I can read and understand just like you could have. Please stop spreading B/S and start educating yourself if you really want to help. You sound like PETA, who last year alone ordered the death of over 3500 animals they owned or held due to space issues, call them, they may send you a rare Warph Rat or a 3 leg cat.

Folks, can we please keep this discourse on a civil level so I don't have to lock this thread. Thanks!
